Lakland Short Scale Hollowbody

Well, to me (and this is obviously subjective) the Dano sound was always stuck in the '60s. It rocks for Surf, early Classic Rock and some Rockabilly, but it kind of sticks out like a sore thumb for other later styles, like Motown for instance. Not that the Dano isn't a nice bass. It is.

I bought the 30" SS HB Lakland a few months back. It was decent with roundwounds but killer with flats. I have used in on about 10 gigs and 1 trip into the studio. Very straight forward sound. Simple controls. Super easy action. Easy on aging hands/fingers. I have played a 5594 for a number of years and the 5594 has been sitting in the gig bag since I bought my new little friend.

Hope this helps anyone on the fence.

Are they still made in Korea? That's a lot of $ for a mass produced Asian import.

These are not "mass produced"....as far as I know, there has been 1 run so far (40 or so basses)....

These are VERY high quality basses....I have felt up several and, if the neck were not J style, I would get one....I just find J necks to narrow more my tastes.

I can't find much information or any reviews of this bass on the web. Does anyone have any information to share about the short scale hollow body? Looks interesting.

Yeah there's not much around. It is finally up on the Invalid Link Removed, and if you do a good hunt through Talk Bass you'll find some reviews, but that's about all I've come across.

I don't even know if there was a second run? Last I checked there weren't any more showing up on Ebay.

Still on my GAS list though.

It's been almost a year since the last post, but this is still the first forum thread that a Google search for the Hollowbody 30 turns up. There just doesn't seem to be much conversation about this bass.

Can anyone comment on the width and thickness of the neck on this bass? The nut width is 1.5 inches, but there doesn't seem to be much more information than that. I'd love to hear how the neck compares to an Ibanez SR or Gibson SG, since those are my current instruments.
