Lakland Short Scale Hollowbody

By the same token, while other people would prefer 34- or 32-inch scale, I'm happy it's a 30.
Exactly. I've thought of getting one but spending $1,000 on a bass that I'd immediately have to have refinished doesn't really make sense. I suppose the coloring isn't tragic, but not something I'd be happy with.
Can anyone who has played this bass comment on how the width and thickness of the neck compare to other basses' necks?
I have one...it is Jazz-width 1.5" at the nut. The back of the neck profile is rounded, somewhat like a Jazz, too.
Thanks for your reply. Sounds like it feels much like a Jazz, but shorter. Can you compare it to an Ibanez SR or a Gibson EB/SG? Thanks again.
Also, could anyone be kind enough to measure the overall length (not scale length) of the Hollowbody 30 for me? Thanks in advance.
The EB-0 has an even skinnier neck, but is prone to neck dive. The Hollow 30 feels better balanced. I'll try to remember to measure my Hollow 30 when I get home.
I'm guessing the Hipshot Ultralite tuners help with that. They are certainly much less massive than the stock Grover tuners on my SG standard. Incidentally, I don't experience much neck dive on the SG, but I'm using a 4.5-inch suede strap, which may help.
The Hollow 30 is 44" from tip of the headstock to the strap button on the end of the body. The widest part of the body is a petite 13".

Thanks for taking those measurements. Sounds like the HB30 would just fit in the trunks of my cars. My Ibanez SR, which is long-scale but has a 2+2 headstock, is about 44.5 inches long, and I have to be careful to get it (and the gig bag around it) through the opening.

I ordered one from Sweetwater today to take advantage of the 36 month no interest financing. Hoping to gig with it on Thursday. I think there is one more available. The 36 month offer ends in less than two hours.
Lakland told me last year they'd have some new color offerings by year-end (2014). Here we are in July 2015 and nothing but crickets.

So far I love this bass. It plays really well. This is the first PLEK'ed bass I have owned and it certainly makes for an easy playing instrument. Weight is 7.5 pounds so it is easy on the shoulder and balances very well.
The tone of this bass is amazing. Very rich and full sounding. The sound is a bit dark but certainly bright enough for my taste. The pickups have a tiny bit of hum when soloed but it is barely noticeable.
I had been playing a Squier as a short-scale test bass to see how I liked it and the Lakland is in another league. I just wish I had gotten it sooner.
Buying the bass from Sweetwater was a good experience. All the pics they provided let me get a good look at it. The bass was double boxed and arrived quickly. With the 36 month financing I can pay it off early for less than $10 a week.

I received mine about a week ago (also purchased from Sweetwater). I'm really loving it so far. Build quality is excellent and setup/playability is fantastic. I've been playing it mostly with the neck pickup soloed. I can't hear any noticeable hum. I like the strings it shipped with, so I contacted Leo at Lakland. He told me that they are GHS Brite Flats (GHS 3070).
Wow I didn't even notice that it has flats. They feel like rounds on my fingers. No wonder it has a darker tone. Thanks for the info. I'm so used to playing TIs for years on my jazz and the Brite Flats sound quite different in a good way.
