Lakland's.

I own a very nice deluxe 55-01 fretless, but I would choose a Cirrus over the 55-01. In fact, recently, I've been thinking about making a trade for a Cirrus. The Cirrus is WAY more comfortable. Sure they are both well constructed and sound great, but the body design of the Cirrus just "feels" right, to me anyway. I generally prefer thinner basses anyway, so this is just my personal preference...YMMV

JEZUS!!! I didnt know pedula's were that expensive, I seen them go for cheap on ebay, they might just be 'older' but not better models, or maybe resale is crappy like you said...

Cirrus, I like, Nice bass, VERY comfortable.

and I would like to spend around 600 because its not too much, and its not 'not enough' it seems like a balanced number for someone of my skill level, I am still kind of new to bass, like I said its not my main Intrament Flute is.

Thanks for all the info, Ill go check out some basses this week, and look for some good deals.

I hate to say this, but I just can't get into Laklands. I've tried at least three, one of which I owned for an extended period of time (55-94 delux). I'd try before you buy, or at least make sure that you have a trial period. Of course, I always say "try before you buy," but I never actually do...

Having owned 2 now(55-01 and a 55-94), I can say the exact same thing.....not my thing!! I buy on impulse without trying basses also, but I can always resell, no biggie.

Just thought I'd share with everyone visually, two, I mean four of the best basses i've ever played. Wood Choice and Fretboard Choice do make a difference kiddies. But here they are, good at different stuff, but both wonderful basses.

Well, I've Decided that at my skill level (not as good as I WANT to be) That a 55-02 isnt worth the extra $200-300, I think that the 55-01 Will suit me better, I play LOTS of jazz/blues and funk, I played both basses, and when I played the 55-01 it just felt 'right' with my style of music, I may end up selling it, and getting an 02 or maybe later a 55-94 deluxe, I like the feel and sound of Lakland Over the sound of Cirrus for Jazz/Funk/Blues, But when it comes to Progressive metal, I really like the Cirrus.

So eventually I will end up getting both :D , but first, the Lakland 55-01.



Thanks for all your help, I know EVERYONE thinks I should have picked an 02 but ohh well...

Wow! I missed this thread. Treena I just wanted to say that the same question could posed to you. What are you thinking? While the Cirrus is a different animal, it's a better instrument than a 55-02 IMO. The Millennium Plus is an instrument that I feel would comparable to, if not better than, a 55-02. I'm basing this on a comparison of my Millennium Plus basses with a Lakland 55-94 Deluxe because I've never tried a 55-02. Now the Peavey instruments may not be better for your needs but I don't think that you can say that unequivocally any Lakland is better than any Peavey.

Now that I own a fretless Cirrus and a fretless 55-01 I can say that these basses are worlds apart. The feel is very different and so is the sound. I hate sweeping generalizations but the best way to put it is the 55-01 has a Fenderish vibe to it with great low end, whereas the Cirrus sounds more modern (seems to have a natural midrange punch and some high end). I thought I'd only end up with one, but I really think I need them both since they are so different :)

Yes! You put what I was trying to say in my last post in a different way. I think Laklands are better for blues and jazz, where the Cirrus would shine in prog metal.

The 55-94 has a quarter-sawn neck versus the flat-sawn neck of the Skyline. Quarter-sawn is more expensive and in theory, better. The 55-02 has the same electronics as the USA models, if I'm not mistaken. The 55-01 has Bartolini designed electronics that are made in Korea. The hardware is of lessr quality on the Skylines and the overall build quality is probably not as good as well. That's all that I can think of. Someone else may have more to offer.
