Larry Hartke's 2010 Precision Bass Refinish

Brother gus1894,

While it may look like it in pictures, there isn't much frayed refuse at all. The paint all goes back to laying flat and that is the three dimensional aspect of the melted layers that you really have to see in person. It's largely an optical illusion in that close up, that paint is flattened out and not flaky in front of the bridge. You would nick your fingernail trying to peal it back.

Now, enough for the moment, because I’ve got to sew up the rips in my daughters ripped jeans!

Larry,

I'll second what Gus was saying as I've seen it here before - someone posts pictures of an 'abused' bass and there's a majority response about how much of an atrocity it is.

I personally think you're getting a little bit of a pass because of who you are, and I guess that's ok, too. I won't though. I've used your amps almost my entire playing career because I love them, but that bass I cannot say the same of!

What I do like is your attitude though. It takes guts to come on here and do something controversial like this, considering who you are and what you have at stake being the owner of a bass amp company, and stick to your guns about it because it's your bass and something that YOU want to do.

So bravo to you for that, if not for the torch job!

Thanks so much Stingray5, I'm just having fun, and I hope everyone else is too! Obviously I'm giving great, tender loving care to the '59 Precision Bass so I'm not really the bass boogeyman!

IMHO You have your head and heart in the right place... but keep your torch away from my babies :D

why are people getting so outraged over this? not like he killed someone. he just took a torch to a bass and scorched it in a few places. big deal. not your bass, and you're free not to buy it. and no, he shouldn't give it away rather than mess it up. that's what shnurrers looking for free stuff always say ;)

Your inner Beavis is showing.

:D

Go for it, can't wait to see the finished product.

Jbassbob,

"What are you nuts" is fine and maybe even called for, but the rest...

How is it that you decide that my bass is doing no good where it is and that I should give it away? I like it, it's mine.

If a were to put a Jethro Tull sticker on my bass do I then also have to give it away? This makes no sense and shows some kind of repressed hostility...uh oh...now the bass playing psychiatrists will be on my back for practicing without a license.

But what's any of that got to do with the price of Bananas?

Jethro Tull is fine......Justin Beiber however......:spit:
