Late 60's EKO 995 Violin Bass

If it's the EKO 995 violin bass, they were great. I had one in 1969 and it played fantastic. I liked it better than the Hofner.
The 995 is a fun bass to play and I'd buy one if it was in very good condition and reasonably priced. I've never owned one cause I went with Hofner's back in the day.

Yea-thanks Thornton. The one I'm looking at is like the one that you've pictured, but with black PU covers and control knobs. Also has the large black pointy dial for PU selector. From my research, common changes/occurrences as time went on. That's why I believe the one that I'm looking at is probably toward the end of production. It is serial #306189, although I don't think that there's much to that.
A couple of questions. Do you know what the proper case looks like? What does EKO stand for?

If the bass has a black pickup selector switch and pickup covers, it's a earlier version rather than a later one. Most likely from 1964 or 65.

As far as what EKO stands for I have no idea and I don't think anyone really knows anymore. I pronounce the company name Echo. Some folks pronounce it Eeeco.
I still have my Hofner which is why I never bought a Model 995 although I've been tempted too many times in the past.

My first bass, circa 1969. Not sure which model it was. Wish I still had it. Nice and light, sounded pretty good thru my Bassman. The bridge was a little flimsy, as I recall.

I owned a 995 for a couple of years, and regret parting with it! They have ebony boards, fully adjustable bridges, multi laminate necks, great neck pocket fit and overall very sturdy for a lightweight hollow body. Often they have nice flamey two piece backs and high quality larch or spruce laminate tops. The pickups are pretty darn good sounding too. The original case with mine was a slim rectangular and fit well..I 've seen some with shaped cases too.
BUY IT!! I recently picked up a late 60s left handed EKO 995/2 and I love it! It has the most beautiful rounded tone. It weighs nothing and has a very fast neck. If the price is good and it's in good shape grab it!
