I think any way I did it, sanding and polishing those leaves will be difficult. I'm not sure it would be any easier if they were not glued down. Though the face of the body under the leaves would be easier to finish if I didn't glue down the leaves.

I would spray the top horizontally if it were me, or better yet just use a satin Formby's tung oil finish and avoid the hassle of trying to polish out the leaves all together.

I agree. Trying to polish all those leaves is something I would not like to do. Oil finish over the leaves is not the easiest thing to do either but a lot easier than polishing. How about spraying satin clearcoat? I might consider that as an option too.

What colours do you actually plan on doing? Just the same as the Lemmy Sig? And I dunno if you've stated previously but what fingerboard material are gonna be using?

Agreed. At this point, the tung oil seems to be the best option.

I may have some color placed on the leaves - some kind of brown or autumn color scheme, but haven't decided yet. I may just leave it natural maple. The finger board will be maple. I ordered the neck from Carvin, which should arrive today, if all goes according to plan.

I was asking as I was gonna suggest Maple, it will set it off! Have you seen the new 4003W? Sounds like your finished product will look similar. What about the Inlays?

I have seen the new 4003W. I think they finally listened to me in making a 4003 with a maple fretboard :P

Since the neck was made by Carvin, there wasn't too much of a choice with regard to the inlays (at least in my price range). It'll come with black dots. It's been discussed adding a leaf style "sticky" over them. Once the radius is sanded onto the fretboard, and the frets installed, inlays really aren't an option. I have yet to search for the "sticky" leaves. Things have been a bit crazy in these parts over the past couple of weeks. New band and all.
