Perfection is only a concept. I wouldn't worry about the small hs chips - like you said, there will inevitably be more down the line. On every one of my builds as "perfect" as I may try to make them, there are small imperfections and as long as they don't affect the playability and sound/tone - I consider it part of what makes them unique. After all, it's not going to be framed under glass - it's going to inspire sonic creativity!

Nice pics which visually summerize your journeys result! Play it proudly!

I just played it while doing my song rehearsals for the guitarist audition this weekend. This bass really rocks! It feels a bit heavy though. I may have to get a pad for the strap. But those dive bombs are awesome! I'll likely just keep the hs chips as a reminder for when I work with mahogany again.

I bet the combo of all maple, 3 pu's and that beefy bridge add up. Do you have a digital scale? I finally got this one and it works great for weighing instruments, bicycles and a lot of other things (under 55 lbs)! Once you're able to download sound files you'll have to demonstrate the dive-bombs.

Thanks again everyone!

I've been tweaking the settings over the past day or two. Raised the pickups a bit which provided a bit more gain and clarity, and adjusted the action a little more. This bass really sings. Even stays pretty much in tune after using the tremolo. My other basses are getting jealous as I haven't touched them in days :bassist:

I'm really happy with the way it's turned out. Can't wait to bring it to band practice on Sunday!

As I said, PLEASE do a Thunderbird, you have an amazing artistic flaw and I'd imagine you would do something more than spectacular!

Thanks! Unfortunately, I'm not a big fan of the Thunderbird design. It's a nice looking bass, but I can't get over the neck dive issue. Same with the SG/EB3 style. I gassed over those in my youth forever. Until I played one. It just doesn't fit my body type.

In other news, I brought the Leaf to band practice today. We were auditioning a new guitarist. I brought my Jetglo Ric as a back up, and never even took it out of the case. Played the Leaf all day, and I love it! Of course, I forgot my camera - I should have taken a video. Next time.

Well, I finally figured out how to make a sound file on my computer, and converted it to an MP3, and uploaded to SoundCloud here:


For the life of me, I can't figure out if it's successful or not, because I can't seem to make it play. The MP3 plays on my computer, but I can't figure out how to make it play from the soundcloud site.

Anyway, if you do get it to play, don't expect miracles. It's early, I'm still asleep, and the bass is out of tune - still working on the intonation settings...

OK. I got it to play.

Hearing some buzz in there - I think it's picking it up from my computer's external speaker setup. As I move the bass closer to it, the buzz gets louder. Single coil pickups. Next time, I'm winding Humbuckers.
