Leafenbacker

There's some drama going on across town, a stolen bass found at a pawn shop. I've been in the house all day, watching its progress. If it were closer, I'd drive over there and get the scene on my iPhone. But it's turning out to be a "hanging around the house" kind of day.

So, while I wait, I thought I'd take an updated beauty picture. Kind of an "eboney and mapleglo" mix.

I am just loving that black on black look more and more. I'm thinking about getting the vintage, all black control knobs for $25.00.

You know Ric did all black hardware in the 80's… the basses w/that unavailable option turn up on ebay now and then… but I think it was some sort of black paint/coating.

I love gloss black / Jetglo. I have a VM Jaguar in black with a matching headstock and a tort guard and I love that color, it's worth it to wipe off the fingerprints. I've never been much for natural wood colors, but your Leafenbacker is an exception because of the leaf details, I think that natural is the only right look for that bass.

Might have been a powder coat. I think they did a special for Guitar Center which was completely blacked out, including the fret board.

Thanks! Yeah, the gloss black is quite a bit more work, but it sure does look pretty.

I was never a big fan of binding on a body. I can certainly appreciate it on a fret board though. And yeah, black strings are a must. Do they make them in round wounds? If not, I think I'd have to switch to flats or tape wounds for that bass.

A completely black bass (of any brand) is a cool enough concept but I dig the way your black Ric looks right now, w/white binding, wood/blocked fb and all the chrome bits.

Thanks, I like it too. I'd be interested in seeing what it looks like with a black fretboard. Completely blacked out is cool, but it's also nice to have an outline (binding) and the splash of chrome.
