Terrible basement pic.

First impressions… volume pot was loose, easy fix. The body feels big but the scale feels small. The neck is really comfy. Tones are great, all usable for me, even bridge solo which is normally, for me, a no no.
I’m happy. I’ll try some new strings soon, possibly rethinking flats and may go Pressurewounds. We’ll see. I like it.

Three things would make me wary of buying this bass.
1. String through body: That extra string stretch to get through the body probably means that normal short-scale string sets will not work on this bass. You'd have to chose from the VERY narrow offerings for medium scale bass or wind big wads of non-tapered full scale string onto the low E post. I wish there was a string-through-bridge option so you could use normal short-scale strings.

Could this actually be considered a pro vs. con as far as being able to use 34" scale strings which would give you a wider variety of choices than 32" or 30"?

"There was an error on our website, yes. The shell pink Rascal bass is only available through select Fender dealers and not through Fender.com" Only available in the UK and Australia I was told

For future reference, I measured the string ball to nut on the OEM strings, 32.75 inches. I installed a set of 34 inch scale GHS Pressurewound with no ill effects. The wound part of the E is going around the tuner post, don't be alarmed.

Maple weighs about 1/2oz per cubic inch. A bass neck is about 2" wide and 1" thick. So removing 2" of neck length reduces the wood volume by about 4 cubic inches or 2 Oz (1/8 pound). Round up to a quarter pound if you want to.

I don't think judging the weight based on scale length is the way to go...

edit: oops - 30" scale so you do need to double it to 1/4 pound. Same comment applies though - the weight is mostly in the body and the bulk of the neck/headstock. Depends on body wood used, size/shape of body and the density of the particular pieces of wood used.

Chicago Music Exchange has a recurring deal with Fender/Squier and other companies for exclusive colors, so I'm sure they'll have something unique. They've done Metallic Purple and Lake Placid Blue. I'd take either of those over black, but the green is growing on me.

The body is almost as big as a Jazz bass. The pickups are pretty big. The bridge is bigger than average.

CME, Sweetwater, and MF/Guitar Center all take on FSRs. Sweetwater has both the shell pink and the orange Jaguars, for example. Guitar Center/MF had the shell pink Jaguar guitars that CME had an "exclusive" on, except that CMEs were "60s" versions with no block inlays or binding, but with a matching headstock and a mint pickguard. Even Stratosphere gets ahold of these FSRs occasionally for parting out. And Fender currently has that Lake Placid Blue "Late 60s" Classic Vibe Jazz bass on their own site right now (though it is $469 instead of the $239 it was last Labor Day). Someone will get the shell pink Rascal.

The bridge isn’t far back on the body so it’s like the G&L shorty and just as long in total as a standard bass.

Sound and frets are short scale but with and arm reach and transport more like a regular scale.

Matching headstock looks great. Wish there was more of that.

Here’s a comparison pic. Both are 30” scale.
The humbuckers on the rascal are very high output. I lowered the pickups and still have to lower the volume knob to get proper gain staging in my setups.

Stop it Lobster !! I had convinced myself there were three good reasons I do not need to buy another bass, and now you've gone and explained away two of my objections. DO NOT release another great video showing us how fun this little Bass is. I will never hit the like button to give you back your human hand again if you make me buy another bass.
