is it just me or does he have some of the coolest vintage-modern designs... ever?

especially this new ACID-J

i want one! especially in a green finish, black pickguard, bound and blocked maple neck, and just a p pickup.

i better start saving...

I think LeCompte and Dingwall are the two most forward thinking designers of electric basses out there.

Of course, Dingwall has only a couple of different body shapes (but they are really good ones), where LeCompte seems like they have a dozen or so different body shapes to choose from. I think he has something for everyone.

Great excuse to show my Lecompte, the latest addition to my bass family!

This was originally a custom design built for TB'er Low_End_Punch and purchased by me on eBay. While the shape may not be everyone's cup of tea, it sure plays and sounds like a dream. The balance on a strap is first rate and it rest nicely on a right knee unstrapped. It is of course a headless design and has the nice addition of a string bending reservoir.

The build quality is as good as it gets and from the few e-mails I have had back and forth with Bud Lecompte he seems like a great guy. I would certainly recommend him and his work to anyone looking for a quality bass guitar.

Angus - If Low_end_punch is watching I'll let him answer that one if he wants too.

It certainly wasn't anything to do with the basses playability, etc., and I was certainly very surprised when I was the only bidder on the eBay auction - it makes a change!

Everything is for sale (well at least that's what I tell the wife!) but I hope that this bass will be with me for a long time!

I had second thoughts when I saw 16lbs too, but I decided to take the plunge never-the-less.

I think they must have weighed it on a faulty scale and as soon the bass arrived, packaging and all, I knew that it was going to be a lot lighter than 16lbs.

The bass came in at a very manageable 10lb 10oz.

Ihave been a Lecompte owner for a little over a year and I am even happier than I was when I first got my VB5. I did a review in the review section. I plan on getting another Lecompte soon, but still cant make up my mind on which one.PMC89 thats a great choice. I know you will be another one of the many happy Lecompte owners out there. Bud sure knows how to do it right!!

Gidday PB!

Ah, the good old maple dot on EOTS......a real conversation starter!

I know the full reason for its placement but I'm sworn to secrecy!

All I will say is that it was put there intentionally and it was not to hide any blemish, etc!

The dot doesn't bother me on that one. I actually kinda like it. It'd be neat if it had an inlay of Bud's logo or something. What's kinda throwing me off is what appears to be dual battery compartments, but nowhere near each other. If it's an 18v system, why not place the batteries together?

edit - on second thought, it looks like there's just nowhere large enough behind the pickups to allow for both batteries together. Maybe where the upper on is, but I think it'd be pretty close.

While I haven't investigated I understand it's an interesting wiring job inside the bass.

Looking at the most direct line between the controls, pick ups and jack I think Bud has put the batteries in the best available space, which requires the least routing or additional wiring.

Yeah he does Vintage/Retro/Modern well

He was great to work with on this project.

Inspired by the old Gibson EB-1 I saw Jack Bruce playing on the CREAM reunion 2005 Albert Hall gig ...

The idea was never to be a replica but an interpretation of the EB-1 ... there is your Vintage/Retro/Modern

It has a 34" scale J taper neck of Wenge wood
The body is Mahogany like an EB
Top is Koa with a Wenge wood strip under it
Pickup is a Dark Star
