I really do admire his design sensibilities. Some other builders just don't understand French curves or the golden mean- basic graphic design elements which, if you ignore them, will result in clunky curves and angles, and imbalanced body shapes. Bud knows.

Hey everyone, I answered the "why did Lo end PUNCH sell his beloved EOTS?" in a previous thread but I really dont mind letting you guys know again. In life we all know sometimes "unexpected" happens and it leaves one to be forced to make some pretty life changing decisions, EOTS and my Mark King 6 unfortunately, were untimely casualties of those decisions as well of a few other cherished pieces that I'd swore by the Gods to NEVER part with. Bud and I designed EOTS together and it was lots of fun watching it come to fruition in it's design stages. The bass was/is incredible, possibly one of the finest instruments I've ever owned, down to the emmaculate construction to it's rediculously powerful electronics to its groovy looking curves, to me it was absolutely flawless. Buds work rivals ANY luthier out there and as I said before, I always hope to be the owner of at least one LeCompte bass, in fact, I've already got a new 6 string in the qoutes from Bud that I'm gathering monies to get started. To answer a few questions, the name "Eye of the Storm" came from me, the dot originaly was supposed to be elsewere on the bass and bigger but I told Bud(after his suggestion) it would be cool to put there, once there, we knew that it would spark many questions "what is it?" "whats behind it?" suffice it to say, it's just cosmetic, from the twisted mind of Lo end PUNCH. Glad to here the positive feedback, I REALLY miss that bass:( . Mabey, wishfully, hopfully in the future I'll have Bud build me another in the original proposed color of stealth black!;) Bud's take on a J Bass is probably on of the best out there as I'm not really fond of J basses, I find that particular design quiet interesting.:)

I screwed up, all right. It was supposed to go at the 12th fret. One big dot. It was cut from a leftover hunk of stabilized birdseye maple. The fingerboard is stablized mac ebony. I realized after I had all the fret work done that I had forgotten the dot. I don't often install face dots, but when I do there are usually a whole bunch. Even though it's larger than "normal" the only explanation I have is the single dot just slipped my mind. What makes it worse was I had even bought a special, larger plug cutter for it. I didn't know if it was significant to Mr.Punch or not, but he was very cool with the bad news and went for my suggestion of putting it in the top. We agreed he'd get asked about it often.

So there you have it. Mystery solved.

I just want to say thanks for all the kind words, here and in the other threads. It's very humbling. Makes a guy feel good to see his work is appreciated by so many. :bawl:

Man, EOTS is awesome. The dot is even cooler where it is, IMO.



Bud's been killer to me always replying for my quote ideas really quick and replying back to any comments. Unfortunately I won't be able to order one in... but it's okay.

The black pinstripe bass will be here this Thursday! Can't wait to try a LeCompte, and such a cool looking one at that.

I gotta tell you, I remember Bud posting about building his first bass in alt.guitar.bass, and his wife Purple Linny talking about how nice it was coming out, and now look at the guy...he's the darling of Talkbass! I'm a dyed in the wool Fender/crappy Beatle bass copy guy these days, but I do appreciate and admire what kind of skill it takes to build a bass and have it stand out from the crowd. He's rather fearless when it comes to his designs, isn't he? In a world where most custom builders are trying to reinvent the wheel that Leo Fender first rolled, it's nice to see a guy take some chances.

I respond to every single quote request. On occasion some of the quotes I write get bounced back and I bet more then a few end up in people's spam catchers. If you're serious there's always the telephone.

Interesting. The Barts I've tried have been kinda mild for me, I hope your pickups have the output and clarity I want. Are they a standard shape to change out for say, Nordstrand Dual Coils or something?

And I guess since I'm asking questions, in regards to the hotrod painted ST SS-5, is the Audere on it have controls going Vol, Blend, Bass/Treb, Z-mode, and Active/passive?


BTW it really is beyond awesome being able to chat with the guy who made the instrument you're waiting to receive and actually be able to ask him questions.

My new pickups will be the Bart "P" sizes, but the ones in that black bass are EMG size. You won't want to put EMGs in that bass. That would mess it up. It's been almost a year since I built that bass, but from what I remember I don't think you'll be wanting to change anything. I think you're correct on the controls.

Now that I am really waiting to hear. Hey Bud, any recent word from Fred on those pups? Seems like they kind of fell off the face of the earth...


BTW this might be a good excuse to post a pic of my babies, a couple sweet STSS5's. My band won't let me show up with any other bass but the P/J either, it just kills!:cool:
