Due to inferior playing skills, I'd favor distracting the audience away from my performance.... On stage, I want the audience’s attention to be on my performance and not on my speaker cabinet!

But I also have a Fender Rumble with the silver mesh grille. I think this would be worth it to make a custom grille, though.
How are the LEDs being powered? Battery box? Separate AC adapter?

HitLites just came out with a new RGB music sync controller that has a 3.5MM audio direct line in. With this controller, any guitar/bass/piano player etc. can have the RGB Lights sync to the output of their instrument. I can use the second output of my Boss ME-50B to drive the RGB lights and not have to worry about using the condenser mic on the controller which will pick up any sound to trigger the LEDs. PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: The New Improved RGB Music Controller Because some of the inside perimenter edges of my cabs have felt, the adhesive backing on the light strips does not stick well. By using the 3/8" double sided tape from HitLites and a staple gun to secure the tape down, this gives the adhesive backed LED strip lights something solid to stick to and avoid rattle. For the amp head, I have elected to go with magnetic LED light strips because the thought of sticking doublesided foam tape to my Harkte LH-1000 makes me cringe...lol! You can get these magnetic light strips from Cooler Master Universal LED Strip RGB | Cooler Master The idea is viable with my bass cabs and amp. Now, I just have to order all the parts and do the install. By installing the lights strips behind the grill around the perimeter of my cabs, I don't have to drill any holes, the cab grills can easily be removed because the strips lights are not in the way and the speakers can easily be serviced. I have one little black RGB connector sticking out under the edge of the bottom part of the cab grills...that's it. I could not believe how easy it was just to install 8 feet of RGB light strip for testing purposes in a bass cab.

A 110AC to 12vdc power supply. You have to make sure that the wattage on the power supply is twice the wattage of the total of your LED light strips. The strips are in watts per foot. So, if you have 10 feet of light strip at 2 watts a foot, your strip(s) use 20 watts of power and you will need a 40 watt rated 12vdc power supply. What is neat about the strips is that you can cut them to fit along the cut marks.

PRODUCT SPOTLIGHT: The New Improved RGB Music Controller I am going to order all the parts I need and install lights in both my cabs, use two magnetic RGB bar LED lights on my amp head and take the audio out on the B channel of my Boss ME-50B to the 3.5MM audio in jack on the RGB controller so that it is my bass that is triggering the lights and nothing else.

There is a website for speaker cabinet lights. Link RemovedHeh, PC DIYers do it all the time to their cases nowadays (Google pc case lighting), why not musicians to their rigs?!

For all you folks who wanted pics. here they are. I installed my lights last night. The cables for the magnetic light bars on the amp head come this evening. Once everything is set up and I confirm it all works, I will tidy up the install. The Music controller gives me the option to sync the lights to my bass only or to music coming from Tascam GB-10 or use the built in condenser mic. These are Luma 10 lighting strips from Hitlites.
