Yep, thats exactly what I mean. What I'm saying is that ultimately, it all depends on how much you do with your left hand. A right handed person can be just as ambidextrous as a left handed person. I've seen it.

To be honest, I tend to “poo-poo” any kind of generalization, ( including left-handed/right-handed tendencies).

If you’re going to assign “crap” status to a post with actual references to actual scientificalized studies, you need to bring a little somthin’- somthin', (of rebuting substance) to the table.
I believe in left-hand/right hand tendencies, and started discussing it here not just because I surmise it to be true, but because I've had experience with people who have them. I never said that they were the majority, and I hardly think I was generalizing.
I'm hardly a good english speaker, but by 'scientificalized', did you just mean 'scientific'? And isn't it 'rebutting' with two t's? Just wondering, since we're on the subject of the right way of formulating a rebuttal.
I think the links to researches made that you posted on how a bigger percentage of left handed people tend to be ambidextrous were cool, and I am not one to refute them, having not enough experiences and having not conducted any form of scientific studies on the matter. They also were interesting reads, so thanks for posting them. I do agree on saying more than 'a load of crap', though, and I'd like to hear perhaps a better formulated answer from Morf on this one, so let's give him a chance.

lefties are generally more "skilled" with their right hands because we have to be...we live in a right-hand world and must be able to use right-hand equipment....whether lefties are more "ambidextrous" than righties, I'm not sure....but definitely the environmental need promotes more 'two-handedness' for lefties...
my line manager all but destroyed his right arm in a water-skiing accident...as a result, he's learned to do quite a bit with his left hand...the brain is an incredible thing.

When u learn to eat, you have never done it before, but a baby instinctively always uses the same hand to eat with, there for that is the hand it will always use making it that side handed. Just the same with picking up a bass for the first time.
Then you couldn't have picked a much stranger way to make that point than by starting with this:
"If you think about it though, so are right handed people. We kinda use both hands for almost everything".
I'm left handed and I chose to learn to play right handed instruments. It was the best decision I made concerning bass. Learning an instrument is a pretty steep learning curve. It's going to be completely foreign when you start no matter which hand you choose. IMO, choosing to learn right handed has more benefits than choosing to play left handed. It certainly did for me.

Im sure he would feel uncomfortable playing a bass, opposite of what he plays now, even with experience. The kid should play what is comfortable for him, Not what the teacher thinks would be comfortable for him.
And who cares which one he plays as long as he excells.

i dunno why leftys prefer playing left handed isntruments and rightys playing right, i think it should be the other way round.
why would u use ur non dominant hand for the more complex part of the playing? im a lefty and i play a right handed bass, and im damn well better then any right handed bassists at my level. im not bragging, it just i have an advantage in proficency over my instrument besause im using a hand im more coordinated with.

Yeah, right. By definition, you cannot be better than another bass player at your level, as 'level' is how you measure how good you are. Of course, you'll realize than when you reach my level.....
It doesn't seem that you've been reading my other posts in this thread. Or any of the other posts, for that matter.
i think all people need to do is be given a inflatable guitar. what ever way they hold it is the type that they should play. i must admit though. you look at a left handed bass and it does. somehow (and i don't know how) it looks wrong lol
I can't believe everyone is still argueing this so-called point of left vs right. You play what feels most comfortable to you.

Your english is better than you think. I made up "scientificalized" to keep from sounding too serious. And yes, though I've seen it spelled bothways, technically it's "rebutting".

Yes, we all can describe anecdotal experiences with left/right handed people of various capabilities, but that's hardly "scientificalized" research.
