Lego instead of velcro

I don't think I've gotten much hate on this thread. Most of the "negativity" has been "but why?, y tho?" etc, and some joking about stepping on lego, and I understand why they don't get it. I only want it out of personal fun, but only if it works. It's not that fun if it doesn't. I will give it a shot. :cool:

Word. This is intriguing.

If you’re considering gluing the LEGO pieces (after all this I can’t even write “legos” without feeling weird about it; thank you Talkbass), there is a wealth of information on hobbyist forums about various products that will bond, fuse, melt, or otherwise permanently affix LEGO pieces to each other and other materials. The “melt” part seems problematic to me. Careful on your glue selection!

From my childhood memories I doubt there will be much issue with two flat sheets staying stuck together. I remember several times having to get a knife to pry them apart. I reckon the issue will be ensuring the pieces stay attached to the equipment when you go to separate the pedal from the board.

Personally, I wouldn't want the additional height from leggos. I like my pedals as low as possible, so I don’t have to step any higher than necessary to hit them.

Also, not seeing any practical advantage over velcro, other than being a fun/different conversation piece. Seems like a “fixing something that ain’t broke” solution.

I think we’re reading VERY different threads. I’ve tried to engage respectfully (other than a diversion into puns, which, let’s face it, is just inevitable) and even the OP agrees that he hasn’t really gotten any “hate.” Having said that I think that at best it’s a weird idea that’s unlikely to work well, but it’s not because I’m some Velcro fanboy or unable to think outside the box.

What about Clamps that hold the pedals. Then the clamps could be velcro'd to the Lego. Now, you velcro another sheet of lego to the board. The Velcro'd lego on the board attaches to the lego velcro'd to the clamps attached to the pedals.

If I were in your position, I would just cheat and attach the pedals to the board using industrial velcro, but leave enough room between them to put Lego around the pedals so it simply appeared to be an entire board covered in Lego. My concern would be the weight of the pedals falling off the board, and then having pointy edged legos on the bottom scratching up the tops of other pedals while flopping around in the case.

I agree - the hard part is how to attach the lego sheets to the underside of the pedals. Some sort of glue I suppose. But anything that would hold securely might be difficult to remove later.

My first thought on the overall idea was "why?" but on reflection, I can see some appeal. Velcro gets filthy pretty fast. There's nothing quite like the accumulation of dust, dirt, animal and human hair and other grunge that you'll find in an old piece of Velcro that's been attached to something you step on in bars. I imagine lego sheets would stay cleaner or at least be easier to clean.

Still, I think Velcro will remain the most practical solution.

See, this is why i use the Lego side of the Velcro on the board. You can vacuum it easily .

Have you ever tried to clean Lego? Its easy enough to wash in the sink and salad spin to dry, but mounted on a board is just asking for tedious Q-tipping.

I think we are at the point of asking what colours the OP plans to use? Will it be a rainbow board? Uniformly Black? Random? Stripped?
