Lego instead of velcro

See, this is why i use the Lego side of the Velcro on the board. You can vacuum it easily .

Have you ever tried to clean Lego? Its easy enough to wash in the sink and salad spin to dry, but mounted on a board is just asking for tedious Q-tipping.

I think we are at the point of asking what colours the OP plans to use? Will it be a rainbow board? Uniformly Black? Random? Stripped?

Look, unless you are some kind of millennial that has lived a privileged life where lego sheets come in multiple colours, we all know that the only answer is classic green lego sheets.
 
What about Clamps that hold the pedals. Then the clamps could be velcro'd to the Lego. Now, you velcro another sheet of lego to the board. The Velcro'd lego on the board attaches to the lego velcro'd to the clamps attached to the pedals.

But I thought you had to paper wrap & ductape wrap everything first, then add the Lego Velcro Clamps to the Lego Velcro Velcro.

All these layers make me hungry.

People, and tape companies, often confuse real duct tape with just utility tape.

Personally, I wouldn't want the additional height from leggos. I like my pedals as low as possible, so I don’t have to step any higher than necessary to hit them.

I was thinking that at first, but then I thought, “Why not use the LEGO sheet material on the pedal? Low profile.”

I agree - the hard part is how to attach the lego sheets to the underside of the pedals. Some sort of glue I suppose. But anything that would hold securely might be difficult to remove later.

And, BAM. But right, still problematic... UNLESS you never removed it.

If, one day, one wanted to revert back—you could just affix the Velcro to the bottom of the plate(s) glued to the pedal! Maybe not great for resale, but what are talking about? 3/8” additional rise?

And speaking of Temple, you could use the smaller pieces (the way Temple recommends using more than one small plate on a medium or large pedal), which would allow you to avoid battery covers for your Joyo pedals, etc.

Affix the LEGO plate to the board, first, and glue the pedal to them in-place, of course...
 
The really thin, flat legos could stay in place very well in my opinion. I remember having two of those stuck together and it being hellacious to pull apart for my nieces and nephews when they were little.

Using those could be pretty stable as long as they are affixed to the board and underside of the pedals firmly. There's probably a more "efficient" way to stick pedals to the board, but hey...it's your board and it's a cool, unique idea IMO

@TheSlug I still don't understand how you intend to affix Legos to the pedals. From the video you linked I guess you're trying to wrap the pedal's back plate + a Lego tile in duct tape? Wouldn't that block the holes? If you're going to velcro the Lego to the plate, why even bother with the Lego at all and just use velcro?

Whatever method you choose, I expect it's the adhesive between Lego and pedal that will be the point of failure.

Once you've got two of those big tile pieces together there's no getting them apart without a screw driver.

Everyone in here that points out the fact that thin lego sheets are hard to pull apart ever wonder why bricks with the same surface are much easier to pull apart? The pedal will act as a lever and a small kick on it will make them detach easily.

Some crafty placement of them on the bottom of the pedal could yield enough surface area to make it work decently enough. It would certainly work better than bare metal on metal or wood :bassist:

What do you mean by "crafty placement"? You can't change the surface area available? I doubt that the surface would be enough to counteract the weight and height of the pedal. Unless you are thinking of using right angles and trying to make then vertical attachment strips?

I'd suggest testing by taking a blank enclosure and covering the entire base plate with lego attached with epoxy glue or something similar. Then see how easy it is to remove from a sheet of velcro. The results will probably be very disappointing.

Not beeing an educator, nor a native English speaker, I will do my best to explain it:

Since I don't want a Lego tile attached to my pedal for eternity in case I go back to velcro or selling the pedal, I will need something inbetween the pedal and the lego wich is easier to peel of. (like the paper in the video)
I will then glue the lego tile to the paper (wich I already have attached to the back of the pedal) with super strong glue.
This is a common glue/sealant used in Norwegian construction sites.
The tubes of the lego will be under the pedal, and the studs will be on top of the pedal board.

This is my biggest restrain for the whole idea, And also my original question. I can only find out by borowing some lego of one of my friends kids I guess

Yeah, so I don't know of any glue that I think would form a stronger bond between the knob side of a Lego and the shiny side of some duct tape that would be stronger than the bond between the knob side of a Lego and the hole side of a Lego.

Maybe one exists. It's a straightforward enough experiment to test a few different glues.

All of this glue and tape being thrown around. First question I have is this, Is the bottom plate of the pedal removable? If so, we have just simplified the whole thing. Remove the back plate of the pedal and use the screws from the back plate to attach the Lego.

The more pieces involved in attaching everything equals one more piece to fail.

I do like where this is going though and am interested in seeing the finished product.
