LEJ Club???

Yeah, that really helped...:scowl:

Okay guys...can someone with an LEJ 6 tell me about the feel of the neck? I like that the spacing is wide because i have huge hands. Is it comfortable as far as the shape of the neck for your left hand? Is the radius on it jazz like or more flat like come modern basses?

I have a 7 string LEJ f'less and the neck feels really slim and fast due to the relatively flat profile. The board on mine has a nicely rounded radius which adds to the playing comfort.

It was quite shocking how comfy it was to play when I first picked it up.

Mine is an '04 and is slightly different from the more recent LEJ's, though. I'm new to the brand so I apologize for the vagueries.

The necks are extremely comfortable. I often play hours at the time with no issues.

The neck, in feel, I'd say is in the "modern" camp. Of widely-available production basses I've tried, I'd say it's not too unlike an Ibanez BTB which I mean as a compliment as those have a very fast & thin neck. LEJ necks are maybe not quite that thin though.

The fingerboard has a slight radius. Happy medium.

Like Mr. Pickles, I was also very pleasantly surprised how comfy these are. I had never played a 6 before I got mine, and I was very skeptical I'd take to it. If anything, I was predisposed to not wanting to like it. I had an LEJ 5 briefly previously though, and liked it enough to try a 6 which was a big step for me that has luckily worked out very well.

Man, the GAS is getting crazy. Here's what I'm thinking as far as specs...I would want 6 string with an ash body, with birdseye maple fretboard. The color would be Emerald/Blueburst, like this one:

I'd have a clear pickguard, and 21 frets. I emailed Brian, and he said they can do matching birdseye maple wood covers for the pickups. Speaking of pickups, I would go with 70's spacing, and the new single coil Benavente Slims that he has available. LEJ preamp with passive tone control, chrome hardware and knobs.

:bassist:

Sounds like you know exactly what you want. That ain't easy, given the increasing amount of options Brian has.

At first I was wondering "why bother with a clear pickguard"? But if nothing else you can put different cool pictures under it for an evolving custom look. I've thought of doing that with my black one.

Brian or Beav, if you're reading this, got any picks of an LEJ (ideally a 6) with clear full-sized pickguard but no control plate?

I'd want a clear pickguard to maintain the traditional space between the strings and the body for slapping.

Something like this?

That bass is killer...the emerald/blueburst option I'm looking at looks a little different though, there is more green in the center while yours looks to be more consistently aqua. But I love that burst over the quilted maple on yours - it looks like running water!

I understand the thinking.

A note of caution - with some basses this spacing is actually thrown off by the pickguard. On my DJ5 for example, there isn't enough space to get between the strings and pickguard to pop easily if at all (depending how you're used to doing it, by grabbing under the string or by pinching the string and pulling it).

Something like this?
The color is actually called aquaburst.
Swamp ash body, birdseye maple board
There is nothing to dislike about this bass. A comfortable playing and great sounding instrument.

Stunning !!!

Guys, I'm joining the club very soon. Can anyone tell me how long the wait is?

I'm getting a 6/24, and I'm debating between Tobacco burst over quilted maple, or firemist gold w/ tort.....

Call Brian, he's really helpful. I had to wait about 3 months for mine. But, it can depend on how backed up he is. Brian treats everyone equal. Just because you are a superstar bass player doesn't mean he's going to complete your order before the 'lil ol' local player's order.

Hi Pacman,

I've got two of these, and bought other stuff from Brian. In my experience he's quick to reply to queries and his estimates are accurate. If something needs to be said, he'll say it without sugar-coating.

The way he seems to do it, is that he's always got a range of bodies/necks in the works then he does the customization as orders come in. Depending where your order falls into that process, it could be a very fast turn-around or a maximum of about 3 months.

Either of those finishes would look great, IMO, as I've coveted both.

I'm curious what made you decide on an LEJ? Good luck with it.

That's the truth, couldn't ask for better service. I haven't played a LEJ yet cause I know I couldn't buy one right now. But he's always said I could try anything out.

When I first started playin', I was so embarrased about bringin' a SX in there for a setup. He did the job perfect and treated me well.

I also took a Lakland 55-01 in there Monday and he did the setup and new strings that day. And they was unpackin' from a Ohio show...and probably busy with NAMM as well. Still knocked it out for me.

Very cool person and I'm glad to have a shop like this so close...
