LEJ Club???

Hi Pacman,

I've got two of these, and bought other stuff from Brian. In my experience he's quick to reply to queries and his estimates are accurate. If something needs to be said, he'll say it without sugar-coating.

The way he seems to do it, is that he's always got a range of bodies/necks in the works then he does the customization as orders come in. Depending where your order falls into that process, it could be a very fast turn-around or a maximum of about 3 months.

Either of those finishes would look great, IMO, as I've coveted both.

I'm curious what made you decide on an LEJ? Good luck with it.

Well guys, the bad news is that the wait time is 4-6 months! I will be positively crawling up the walls by then - but, I know it'll be exactly what I want.

I decided on quilted maple over ash, with the 59 burst and a rosewood fingerboard with pear blocks. All black hardware dresses the whole thing up.

I decided on Brian because, from everything I've seen and heard, he makes the BEST 6 string jazz basses available. To me, a 6 string, 24 fret jazz bass is the epitome of "what I want in a bass". Hopefully, this will put the GAS pains to bed for a good long time.

Yeah, that's awhile to wait. Possibly you fell into the gap of a new batch delivered for NAMM and the next batch not yet ordered pending what people order at NAMM. In any case let's call it good news for Brian then. Given the economy, an increasing backlog is a blessing few enjoy.

Also yours seems somewhat unique, a 24-fret neck with blocks. Should look nice. Except for the blocks, it's very similar to my first one.

Which pickups did you get? I've never heard the single coils. I've got tweaking gear in my blood, yet I've no desire to try different pickups in mine.

uhh....that should read "Pearl" blocks, not pear blocks.

I've got the dual coils going into it. Although I like the sound of single coils, I really prefer my basses to be dead quiet. And every bass that I heard the dual coils in sounded fantastic.

I'm hoping Brian overestimated the build time....

Don't forget Brian has some great used basses for sale! The most focused "B" of all my basses. Number please

What a boring club, eh? Are y'all too busy playing your basses?

I recently found a sheet that must have come with my LEJ, on which it shows illustrations for preamp settings for "modern fingerstyle", "slap", "classic fingerstyle", "fat P bass" etc. Anyone tried those? I can't recall reading comments on them before. They sound pretty good to me.

Even when playing diverse covers, I seldom move the active controls and if then I move them very little ... such as putting the bass juuust past the center detent on either side. To get different sounds I mostly use the passive tone control or even passive mode, and hand placement, but this settings sheet has got me experiementing more and having fun with it.

It's surprising the range of tones one of my instructors can get with a Spector 2-band active EQ, and he's a master of on-the-fly changes so I've been inspired by him too. Anyway, the sheet is a great starting point for those who haven't found, or don't know how to get, diverse tones out of it.

I see some nice new instruments on the LowEnd site. That I'm not playing 5's anymore has saved me untold amounts.

Whiteburst. I was very close to getting my black LEJ as a whiteburst or trans-blackburst but had no idea what it'd look like. Looks really cool to me.

Brown Antigua. I'd dig this very deeply in a more choclatey brown.

Would that be a 70's pickup placement. That bridge location pickup is exactly where I play next to the bridge. Brian has one with a maple neck with black block inlays currently on his site. Been thinking about a trade for my Fender 90's boner and my American Deluxe Active 5ver. Always ask for a t-shirt with trades but he always ignores my request. Do you think that would be a good trade? I have been hesitant because I already have two of his basses.

How can Brian and Chris stand to let these hand crafted beauties leave the shop? I guess it must be a rent, bill thing. This is truly one of their best efforts to date. I believe you chose every detail on this bass, did'nt you Pacman? It is truly a vision like no other. The black hardware was definitely the proper choice. You are a very patient man Pacman, with you just rewards right around the corner. Don't forget your personal review, upon arrival.

I did - that bass is 100% chosen by me. I thought long and hard about all the details, and chose them according to my 'end plan' (old and new school; 'non client scaring 6'; etc) and I'm blown away by how beautiful it turned out! I have a tracking number, so we're down to a short time.

My wife and child will not agree with the patient thing - they got tired of hearing (nearly daily) "I want my new bass!"

while pacman has the one I like the most I got a bad ass 5 lej fiesta red with some crazy electronics in it

You are right, crazy electronics.
I played that one over the 4th weekend. That 7k / 9k push pull is really cool. I had my silver LEJ's dual coils switched to 9k singles based on that fiesta red bass! Along with a series parallel push pull :bassist:

I feel ya Happy! I returned my Alleva-Coppolo and got back my LEJ5 I had up for sale. LEJ4Lyfe!

Arlo just gave me a New Lic Plate Idea.... LEJ4LYF or LEJ4LIF.... I'll have to get that on the none LOWEND car Lic

RedLeg - pickups are in and bass and awaiting the abalone inlays to arrive for install. Bass sounds great!
