Leland Sklar with Lyle Lovett

I got to see Leland Sklar playing with Lyle Lovett and His Large Band last night at the State Theatre in Minneapolis. Oh, and that's Russ Kunkel (!) on the drums. It was a great show and just a thrill to see these legends in person.

After the show, Leland was at the merch table signing copies of his book, "Everybody Loves Me". I had a brief chat with him. He seems like a genuinely nice guy who loves his job. He said (paraphrasing) "I love playing with these kids" and "Playing the shows is a joy; they pay me to get on the bus afterwards."

Glad to see Lee was wearing a tie for the occasion. 😁

It would be hard to find anyone with anything bad to say about Lyle -- really a class act and a nice guy. He must treat his guys right -- Russ Kunkel's been playing that gig for years. And yeah, EVERYBODY wears coats and ties... everyone except the girls, and they dress for the occasion too. As I say... a class act.

Absolutely a class act. Lyle spent, I kid you not, half an hour introducing the band. He shared detailed information about each member of the band and made it clear how much he valued and appreciated each of them.

And all the men onstage were in a suit and tie, top suit coat button buttoned.

I was in the cafeteria at work a few years back, and the crowd there was really into-“The Price is Right”, and Bob called for Leland to come on down. I nearly choked on my eggplant frappe. There was Leland Sklar bidding on an expresso machine. It was surreal, certainly unexpected.
