I think of Les as a musical Picasso. Picasso learned to paint conventionally and then chose his own path and process to the shock of many. Same with Les...it's not like he didn't learn to play "normal" music before deciding to invert all the rules. Like Picasso his art is very interesting but I don't want it in my living room all the time.

Primus is inspirational, as is Les' playing. Its proof that someone with a personal sound and compositional style can do well playing music all the time. How many people have played with Buckethead, Bernie Worrell, Stewart Copeland, etc... on TB?.

I like how this always comes up whenever just a little bit of critique is laid on an artist. Invalid reasoning imo, you are saying that one has to be more famous and successful than Claypool to have an opinion on him. In other words, you really don't care for anyone else's opinion unless it agrees with yours.

I like many Primus album but not the lastest nor his solo album ... too much one riff for like 5 min just doesn't work for me, he made more variation in early Prius album. I have made a cover of Wynona's big Brown beaver with one of my fretless 6.
