Les Claypool's New Bass!

Does it matter how it looks?
It's not a beauty, but neither is Les. It's weird, it's got touches of the environment around it and on the outside, it's pretty mellow. Only small traces of weirdness that sort of smile and grin when you ask them about just how weird they really are.
Just like Les.
I'm sure it sings like Sinatra though, and that's all that counts.

Um... celeb production models usually suck, thats all.
Usually when one of these big names put out an instrument the one you get is actually a sad imitation of the custom shop model they actually play. Billy Sheehan is an exception, his green yamaha? I think? Anyway he actually uses one straight off the line so thats the one exception I can think of.

Any more news on this? I couldnt find anything anywhere else about this becoming a production bass / signature instrument....
Guys, your forgetting the fact that Les does love his Fenders... and the P pick up? well he basically gets that sound anyway from the one EMG in the neck position, pretty much the same thing

Never liked the Flea Bass. Flea is awesome, but his basses just look a little cheap to me. I've never played one though so I can't really say.
Claypool's new bass looks similar to his other one to me. Looks very nice!

Still nothing happening on this thread? Was anyone ever actually able to verify that this was going to become a production instrument?
Really? What about the Marcus Miller Jazz? or the Geddy Lee Jazz? I think there are actually quite a few signature basses that are great value money.
It's all been from what Les said at the 30th show. Said "Also, look at this thing, look at this! This is what you call a fancy hunk of wood, and I just got it yesterday. This is actually a 'Les Claypool' designed hunk of wood that a friend of mine made. I believe we're going to try and make a bunch of them to give away to you folks, but it's just an idea."
So we're scheming of a production bass, but mainly talking about his new one. I like it. I think P basses are really underestimated in funky genres and I think Les is just using what he likes. Who knows he could be a p bass freak like some of tb.
The last live show of his that I saw, he played 4 strings all night. The only exception was using the stickbass for songs like Whamola. I didn't see him play a 6'er during the entire show.
I know right? This is about 15 years too late and that's being generous. When I think claypool bass it had better be a carl thompson. And he doesn't make basses any more.
Also i highly doubt les would even dare do this if carl was still in business. It seems opportunistic, desparate and almost definitely disappointing. Did he say they will be "giving away" these instruments that doesn't make any sense but if that's the case I have nothing bad to say at all about a free bass!

Yeah, Carl is still making basses.
I don't really agree too much with the rest of your post. Stuff like the Flea bass and the Geddy Lee Jazz are made to be affordable. Hardly any of us can eve afford a regular, non-frills Carl Thompson. You can't expect Carl to pump out a ton of Les Claypool signature basses (which wouldn't be possible, it already takes him about a year or two to make basses due to how many orders he already has) that would most likely run $4,000+.
Seems like Les is thinking about making a short production run of an affordable bass (I mean affordable as in not $4,000 or more dollars a full CT would run you, depending on what you want). I don't get why you people see the need to harp on him for that.
About his records not selling well...the last record came out in 2009, which was a solo effort. The last Primus album came out in 1999. His solo stuff definitely draws a different, but smaller audience compared to Primus. That hasn't stopped Les from touring every year since Primus broke up, along with directing/acting in his movie, writing his novel, and all the various solo albums he's put out. Primus is releasing an album in a few months and will tour to support that (they've already toured twice since July). It's definitely not about the money.
