The bass sits really well on my lap and I have a feeling its going to be a perfect fit for me:

The bass right now weighs somewhere between 4 and 5 pounds, A huge plus, I feel like I won the lotto... It should be done in about 4 to 5 weeks.

I had a custom jazz built over a year ago. I don't get tired of posting it enough, its my pride and joy and work horse. One piece mahogany body (I think this is central american mahogany, I can't recall), moses 35 scale neck, bartolini electronics which are my favorite wired volume volume tone.

I just bought some paint last wednesday, and some experimenting on spare wood was made. I will post pics shortly. The idea behind this is to try and match the color in my head with the actual final product.

But the bass has been sanded and tweaked a bit. Its quite light.

Im still experimenting with finishes on spare wood but haven't got anything I like yet...

My friend just had to relocate his shop and got caught up finishing the jazz bass. He gave me a time frame of mid december for the bass's completion. As a side note, who here has used high gloss polyester finishes and where can I find this online...

Its a regular black metal control plate. The top is going to be hand carved, I can't remember the english name for it, but a cuchilla de vuelta is going to be used.

My friend finally relocated his shop, some work will be posted in the coming days... Here's a few pics of recent work on the truss rod, fretboard and headstock...

and a mock up of how the strings are going to line up with the tuners and the crown logo...

Expect more posts on a regular basis...
I've also done some experimenting with some floor finishing products which have come close to the color and finish I'm after but not quite... I'll keep you guys posted.

cuchilla de vuelta is like a back blade or hand router, I think.

hey...this is an interesting concept and I'm going to follow it.

Just an observation... I know it has been already pointed out, but looking at the picture and specs it still looks dangerously on the heavy nosedive side of things.

Also, have you tried to strap it on? Is the first fret easy to reach? Basses with that kind of layout have these two problems - some to an unplayable level. At 35" they can only get worse.

Otherwise, very nice!

The bass is really really light, I'd say under 7 pounds. It balances perfectly on my lap. I'll be using hipshot ultralight tuners for the neck dive issue... And the neck is going to lose about half its weigh when they start shaping it...

More works been done, the fretboard LEDS are installed...

This week the binding and carving should take place...

I dropped by my friends shop today and he just bought some tools to do the binding, lets see how fast this goes... waiting is tough but the end result will be worth it... I managed to get a picture of my friend holding the neck with the LEDS on so enjoy

Nice build. I love the LP body style in all variations.
My first full on regular bass build will be a LP doublecut.

Me likey the LEDs .... how about some How-To info?

The neck looks seriously thick. Maybe it's just the small body that makes it look that way.
