Les Paul Bass

wow not a single reply in almost a month....well I've been looking for an epiphone les paul bass for awhile now and I've found one that i'll be looking at in a few days...hopefully it turns out to be something i want...we'll see.

why? well so far it's cuz i like the way they look...still yet to find out if I like the way they play.

I mainly use an Epiphone Les Paul Special Bass. I was wondering does anyone else use a Les Paul bass? If so why?

I owned one of these for a couple of years back in the early 80s. It was my first Gibson bass as well as my first short-scale bass.

Exceptionally well-built, but somewhat of a polarizing instrument that one was. I wouldn't mind grabbing another one at some point in the game.

Polarizing how, looks? Or sound? Or something else?

I had one of these, as well as a few other Les Paul basses over the years. Each had their own unique tone, but nothing to write home about. They were all kind of dull sounding. The biggest turn off for me was the ergonomics. Maybe it's because I've grown up in the Leo-designed camp and I'm used to that basic shape, but the LP bodies just feel awkward to me.

Sound. Quite dark but not muddy. Not all that usable to me at the time, but I was still very young back then and likely didn't know how to get the most out of it, coming from various FSOs that I previously owned/played.

I'm reasonably certain that I'd be able to find my way around one of those much better nowadays.

I grew up in that camp myself and could see why other players would be unhappy with these basses. They were quite heavy for their size, and definitely balanced very different than Fenders, or most other basses for that fact. Because the body is so small but yet so dense and heavy, one does feel every last gram of it.
