Les Paul basses.

Lately, I've been looking at Les Paul body basses. I just really like the classic shape. Currently, I have a $750 budget towards a new bass, but the only Les Paul bodied basses I'm aware of are Epiphone Les Paul Specials, Gibson Les Paul Basses (Out of my budget), Burny Les Paul Bassses (Out of my budget), and the ESP Eclipse Bass. If anyone has links to other Les Paul basses, please post them here.
Thanks. :D

Be on the look out for vintage japanese basses, specifically grecos and ibanez that usually go for your budget or less.

And look I happened to find one for sale for your intended budget:
[Invalid or Expired Link Removed] The top one is a very nice looking greco. I have no relationship to the seller by the way.

I love les paul basses and had my friend build my own... Check out the build thread: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/f57/les-paul-bass-build-673130/#post9558848

The early / mid 90's Gibson LP basses can sometimes be found for under $800.

They look like this -

There are also the Epiphone Les Paul Standards - with the arch tops. I have a thing for Les Pauls as well. I have had an Epiphone one for a couple years that plays really well. They can be had for well under $750 when you can find them. I just picked up a Gibson LP Standard, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this one:

I would make love to that. =|
I play in a Pop Punk band and I've noticed Pop Punk fans really like instruments that really stand out. Plus, they just look like they sound amazing.

I owned a Les Paul Special by Epiphone. Great bass with days of sustain and great articulated sounds and voice.

Setting intonation on this bridge is self-surgery! The allen lock screw is covered by the string - lot's o' luck!

It was however extremely heavy - over 10 lbs I think but it's a real back bender. .

Has the neck dive of Greg Louganis,

However the finish was super slick - that part I liked a lot. Hit a note and walk away for a PBJ sandwich and come back and it was still humming the same note. Really.

BUT - it was used and I didn't connect with it on a more basic level. I sold it and turned the money into a VM-Jazz.

I see it now once in a while and have confirmed the serial number as my old one.

But do you ever look back on selling it?
Or are you more satisfied with the VM-Jazz?

I can only say that I might have not bought it new for the sheer weight of it - but I don't regret selling it for the VM-Jazz.

The Jazz has turned out to be a sweetie too:::

Come to think for a minute - the VM lent itself to customizing and modding a lot better than the LPS might ever.
