    Hi everyone!

I’m a real pick geek, and have been a collector for about 30 years. I’m always on the lookout for new and cool picks, so if you can suggest any to me, that would be appreciated. I’ve got over 400, loads of shapes, sizes, materials, brands, etc.

But also, I’d love to have a poll of what’s your absolute favourite pick for playing, either guitar or bass or banjo or whatever else you happen to play.

Feel free to expand in the comments :) I’ve limited the poll to some of the most common types that are in my collection but happy to add more!

I'm highly opinionated and extremely self-assured
Litter of the picks, eh? :roflmao:

I voted Dava, but I have to acknowledge the ubiquitous Dunlop Tortex. They’re like the D’Addario XL of the pick world - available everywhere, for cheap, and high enough quality to get the job done well.

I use Alice branded 0.96 mm picks if I use picks (and I don't use picks).

I bought a billion of these from Ebay for pennies a few years ago. They are rough textured, though the roughness wears off. I use them more on guitar, but on bass I like to get a sort of Bobby Vega pick shuffle on the go sometimes.

I honestly don't even know what kind of picks I use. Admittedly I don't use them often enough to warrant much thought, but even back in the early 80s when I was playing a ton of Police-influenced New Wave with a pick I'd just grab whatever the guitar player had spares of.

Too bad you can’t have 2 polls on the same thread, adding size. I prefer 1.14mm and up

I like the tortex. I like to score them with a razor for extra grip

You collect picks? Never thought about it but that's great! I usually just wear them down and Chuck them. Don't use then very often for bass but do when I play guitar.

On the bass I'm all fingers (I do occasionally "pick" with the nail on my index finger for the tonal effect) but I've been using tortex .88s (da green ones) forever on guitar. I've tried lots of other picks but I haven't liked anything better than the green Dunlops.

Other: Dunlop Ultex .73 — cut down to a jazz teardrop shape. (Yes, I really do that.)

Really? I use them and voted Dunlop nylon. So now we're splitting the Max Grip vote. We should decide how we should vote so we get represented in this poll.

Or we could go get a light snack and go to bed.

EDIT: Not you and me together, of course.

I use all kinds of picks. I will have half a dozen kinds on my mic stand pick holder. Tortex has been my go to for years until recently.

If I had to walk out the door with only one these days though, it would be.... S63-12-xlarge.jpg

I was using red jazz III XL on bass for awhile, but as most of my pick use was on guitar with Tortex yellow, always felt a little weird when i picked up the bass picks. So have gone back to Tortex blue on bass.

Dunlop Gator Grip 1.5mm ... an audience member found one on the floor near the bandstand and handed to me. I tried it that night. Been using these now for nearly two years. I like them for acoustic guitar, too (for the rare times I strum, I'm a fingerstyle/fingerpicker). Before that I was using 1.0mm Dunlop Tortex.

Yeah man! It started when I was seven years old, my dad found one in the street and gave it to me. Looked like it had been run over a couple times. I still have it

    XD

I think that would be the Dunlop big stubby

Interesting, I don’t have one of those. Might look them up

Some more that I haven’t heard of, will have to check them out

I don't play bass with picks, but I do flatpick guitar (acoustic and electric).
Here is a shout out to Michel Wegen, who makes the very best guitar pick I've ever used:

    Wegen's Guitar Picks

They're seriously worth it for tone, durability, and feel, and they are made by hand in the Netherlands...
