I've mostly used Dunlop Jazz picks since I found out they came in an "XL" size (which is just normal pick size instead of those tiny little things). Great balance of attack and fatness, and great control + texture. I've tried tons of picks and they really seem to be the best for my overall uses. I occasionally use a thinner Herco (forget which one, but its actually their version of a "Heavy") for more aggressive/twangy playing.

Have you tried the XL version of the red Jazz pick? They are my FAVE all-around bass pick! The normal sized ones are too small for me with bass (I use the XL size for guitar too though)
Either that or the green ones (.88 mm).
For guitar, I like the ‘Standard’ shaped yellow tortex, but for bass for some reason I prefer the big triangles
I'm a 100% pick only player.
For my Precision I use Clayton 1.07 big triangles. For my Mustang .88 Dunlop Tortex like the ones above.

There aren't many 'bass picks' out there, as most bass picks are just normal picks in a heavier gauge, or stiffer material (Tortex). Actual bass picks are typically made of felt, which softens up the sound, but still gives you the advantages of a pick. Only problem with felt is that it's no match for a bass string long-term, as felt isn't terribly durable.
The Wedgie, which is a rubber bass pick, gives a similar type sound to felt, but offers a more durable material. If I remember correctly, they had different different thicknesses, and different rubber materials as well, so you could get them to fit your tastes. Another thing that made them cool was that the pick was concave where the thumb goes, making them quite comfortable to hold.
Lastly, the reason "it's not my thing" is because I'm sort of against playing my bass with a pick, strictly for control and feel. I find I play better finger-style than I ever could with a pick.

right: i'm lousy (poor technique) with a pick and have relied on fingerstyle from the beginning. i've used a pick in the studio before, but that's not like a gig! that said: i keep thinking that if i found a pick i could actually 'hang on to' i might be tempted to use one once in a while for that "click" effect (on fretless).
Get a thumb pick, you don't really have to hang on to it all it just slips on your thumb.got it --- thanks for responding!

I choose the pick that sounds the best with which ever bass I'm using and the strings that are on it.
With Laklands and Sunbeams I'm back to using a Fender celluloid.
With Fenders and Sunbeams it's Tortex or soemtimes a California clear with SS rounds.
All heavy or extra heavy; the type of plastic really does make a difference in the tone for anyone who hasn't experimented.

Yeah when I realized this I went down a HUGE rabbit-hole testing different picks. Both the pliability and material matter for playability and tone. I love the aggressive brightness from lighter picks but find them super hard to control, but too thick and you lose the attack. Most shredder picks guitarists love have too much attack for bass IMO, though the Dunlop Jazz picks are a great balance and are obviously well loved by guitarists- for me they are a great all-around pick for any instrument (in the XL size for my big fingers of course!).
I voted the Dava Grip picks since they've been one of my absolute favs since I found them.
But recently, I've started playing with a "Big Stubby" and like it a lot. It gives off a fatter sound to my ears. Also, because it's a smaller pick, it forces me to play more so with the tips of my thumb/forefinger as opposed to the meat of the side of my forefinger. My hands are relatively large, so it takes a little more concentration to maintain grip, but it forces me control the pick a little better since I'm gripping it at the tips of my fingers (if that makes sense).

Back when I sometimes used to use a pick for bass (not since late 90’s), this is what I also used. Nowadays I like them for guitar. Big enough to keep a secure grip on without sweating them out of my fingers or cramping my hand.
