Let’s have a poll about picks!

I usually have Dunlop Big Stubby 2.0 (cuz of the concave grip), but recently found a couple of go-to's that have broken into the micstand pickholder...

Dunlop Ultex (Regular/Sharp) 1.4
Dunlop Gator Grip 1.4

I'm partial to the Gator Grips than the Ultex, just because I was so used to using Tortex on guitar for years, and the grip was a nice touch.

All three are in the arsenal, but I I'm willing to try anything and everything bout once or twice.

Tortex has always been my go to. the 1mm has been my go to for 3 years now. I just discovered the Jazz III tortex. So good for my post hardcore band which has some faster notes.

Dunlop Nylon 88’s get the job done for me.

I had one of those & find the Dimension to be quite similar. Here's my actual Dimension, but those frosted edges wear faster than smooth edges, IME:

As you can see, both top corners have some wear, but TBH it was from Cobalt rounds on a guitar.

Steve Clayton's Delrin, so I supose these are Dunlops in fact. And lately customized, you know, one of these naive things you think are cool when you are young. 1.0 and 1.14

I ordered some big fatties and Psycho as I want to try bigger ones. Now I am using and liking the big stubby 3mm

Don't use picks very often on bass, but when I do, it's .88 mm Tortex picks. I find I like the way they sound and feel.

For guitar, I use mostly .88 mm Dunlop Nylon Max-Grips, again because I like the way they feel and sound. For more precision playing, I like to use Jazz IIIs.

As a pick enthusiast, I would recommend you check out Wedgie rubber picks for bass, if you haven't already. They're not really my thing, but they are cool none the less.

I use whatever is in my pocket (always have 1 or 2) and there's not guessing what they will be. Some are Dunlops, some Fender, some otherwise branded and made by some generic producer.

I also have a 'pick punch' and make my own from expired credit cards, hotel room 'keys' and just about any material that works with the punch.

Hi everyone!

I’m a real pick geek, and have been a collector for about 30 years. I’m always on the lookout for new and cool picks, so if you can suggest any to me, that would be appreciated. I’ve got over 400, loads of shapes, sizes, materials, brands, etc.

But also, I’d love to have a poll of what’s your absolute favourite pick for playing, either guitar or bass or banjo or whatever else you happen to play.

Feel free to expand in the comments I’ve limited the poll to some of the most common types that are in my collection but happy to add more!

I just started using a pic about a year ago after playing with my fingers for 40+ years. Trying to get closer to Paul McCartney’s tone as I am now in a Beatles tribute band ( I know – jumped into the deep end of the pool on this one).
AnyWho - I came across a number of these pics in a box and have been loving them. You can’t tell from the picture but they’re actually a fairly transparent gray color. There is a grip on each side of some type of rubberized material, and the gauge on this one happens to be heavy. I am running out of these little guys and would really love to replace with the exact same - however, I have no clue who the manufacturer is. If anyone can help based on the logo, I would surely appreciate it.

I use the 1.00 mm Clayton rounded corner triangular picks. I call them "The Pigeon on Steroids" picks, 'cause that bird don't look like an eagle to me!

I use all kinds of picks. I will have half a dozen kinds on my mic stand pick holder. Tortex has been my go to for years until recently.

If I had to walk out the door with only one these days though, it would be....View attachment 3448054

I mainly use standard Fender mediums (tort or pearl), because I used to reuse my brother's worn out picks rather than buying my own. (35 years ago)

Recently, I've really taken a liking to the felt Mick's Picks for more thump and less click on those R&B songs that are too fast to play with my fingers.

Can you describe the difference? Different tone? Better grip? Are they more durable than the felt? I get quite a bit of play out the felts picks. I'd say I've gone through about 6 in the past year.
