i've owned both versions of the colourbox and much prefer the V2 (still have the V2).

this from JHS:

Not so much a pedal for me (although available in pedal form), but I really don’t like being without the compressor and a TOUCH of drive that are both built into my EBS head.

The Reidmar 750 is my main head, so I have an idea of what you're talking about.

My personnal magic pedal is the Way Huge Green Rhino. Drive almost completely off, really responsive to dynamics, as it starts to break in just when i really dig in, emplasis the mids in a pleasant way, and has plenty of bass on the tap.

12AT7 has less gain than 12AX7, people do that swap often when they want the preamp to run mostly clean.

I can say this because I'm not endorsed, or a customer (YET!). Every time I've came across @Sushi Box FX here on TB, or the one or two emails I've done, Sushi has allways been informative and just all around awesome. For a smaller company, and one of our own, Sushi Box does a great job of Customer service. Now if I could just decide which of the pedals I want I'll be a customer.

So, what I've learned from a quick skimming of this thread is that there is a magic pedal called a "Je ne sais quois", right? No one is sure what it does, but everyone wants one. Searching Reverb.com now, but no matches yet. I'm sure I'll find something, but I know not what.

Sushi Box Underground Accelerator for me. Hits the front end of my amp really pleasingly for the on-the-edge breakup, and takes drive pedals so well.

Mainly though, I want my DI line to have a "real amp" sound for gigs; the Sushi gives me that in spades! It also gets paired with a Two Notes Torpedo C.A.B. M+, which is also used just to colour the DI (and playing at home in my little apartment!). I could do similar things with the on-board amp EQ, but I don't like making any changes to my stage sound which will impact FOH. So the Sushi + Torpedo creates a great, and consistent-regardless-of-venue DI sound, anywhere I'm playing, and my amp sounds great on stage with that little tube box in front of it.

Those of you endorsing the American Sound, I'm kind of interested in how you use it. I have one, as well, but I struggled to get a sound I much liked out of it unless I placed it front of my DemonFX Harmonic Booster. Between the two of them I found a sound I love (and it's my main tone for my fretted bass), but on its own it was either clanky or kind of muddy. It's an important part of my sound now, but I can't really picture it described as a sweetener in the way that some of these compressors or DIs are.

Is it always on? Do you use it for some general hair? Or do you use it for overdrive? Do you run a preamp after (either pedal or amp)?

My jnsq pedals are
Dod fx10 bifet pre- adds the magic at just the right frequency.
The joyo orange juice- a little pinch of drive to help stand up in a big mix, but also the ehx bsf for exactly the same reason.

Caveman BP1 Compact --> Reinhgold BP2 --> Miura M2 for me. Oh and I have also recently added to the pedal chain a Rodenberg LDP OD/CB for both a clean boost and overdrive.

I second the Rodenberg LDP OD/CB i have the deluxe. You also have 2 preamps I've been gassing for in the BP1C & BP2. I'll keep searching the verb and the classified section here until I find one.

Great list of things here GAS inducing for sure.

I'll add the Genzler Magellan Pre/DI just got it and is just like the Genzler (Genz-Benz) amps clean quit with tons of tone shaping capabilities doesn't change or color the sound of your bass just enhances.

The other pedals I have that I've not seen mention:
MXR BOD had no idea I loved Octave pedals until I bought this.
Broughton Josh Wah not really a tone shaper but just adds a little something really cool when used after the MXR BOD just plain Funky.

For the longest time, I used a Phat Phuk B, at the end of my chain, for this. Then I discovered Sushi Box — first the Space Heater, and more recently the Slampegg. I keep going back and forth between them (right now, Slampegg has the edge, thanks to the magical Lo switch!) Whichever one I'm using, I run mostly clean and use the PPB at the beginning of the chain, to push into overdrive when necessary.

Diamond Bass Comp is the only pedal that i use with every bass and every amp i own. I mostly use the tilt eq on it and just a little compression. It's been an always on pedal for over 2 years now.

I usually don’t mix the two signals. I let the sound tech to deal with them separately in two channel strips…

what's flwr like on bass?

It’s a real nice drive. I was mainly using it for some mild overdrive. You could set it even lower for a little character or get it into fuzz zone.

Live with an amp it seems like there is no low end loss at all. TBD what is going on in the 40hz zone, will need to test it out on one of my bigger PA gigs.

I’m reducing my board for simplicity. I’m even removing the tuner because side jacks. Here goes: Bass> Broughton Hi/Lo Pass set @ 40 and 3.5k> Jam Waterfall set @ noon, both controls> Effectrode LA1A Low peak- 9:30, Low attack, gain @10:00, Boost @11:00, Knee @noon > Oracle all switches “Off”, Master and Gain set @ 2:00, Bass @2:00, Treble @ 10:30 Range @10:00 for now feedin a PF50T slight Bass boost, slight Treble cut, Midrange 11:00, and the Frequency set @ 2. The LA1A feeding the Oracle is key. The Jam Chorus gives a nice slight underwater sound. I dime my instrument Volume control and set the tone controls Flat, and favor the Neck pickup. If I could strip everything down to one pedal, it would be the Oracle. The Range control is the secret sauce.
