Let's see your Bass Rig

I'm a long time guitar player and drummer but relatively new to focusing on bass. I have a mid 80s MIJ P-Bass that I've had since the early 90s, but I've mostly only used it on my own demos. Took me a while to find an amp that felt right, and was reasonable money wise and size/weight etc. So ended up with an Orange Terror Bass head and Avatar 210... in matching white (natch), and hitting the RAT once in a while.

I'm really digging this set up! I don't play covers or anything, so I don't need to cover anyone else's tones. I'm mostly trying to find a voice that feels right to me. I've been writing a lot on bass since getting this setup squared away and will be gigging soon in a new project. If I come across another Avatar 210 in white with the same grill cloth (long shot I think) I'll def get it and have the option of stacking them horizontally.

Sexy. I love white cabs. And I love that you are finding your voice and not trying to emulate anyone.

Just picked up two (discontinued) Bergantino ceramic REF210’s. I’m a ceramic tone-preferred player at heart…this is now my daily ‘practice rig’…always a good bass day—just flip a switch and play some Bergantino HP2-powered, meaty bass tone! (Pedalboard: Meris LVX delay/Mercury7 reverb in the effects loop, and amp tuner-out for my Sonic Research ST-300) :cool:View attachment 5376086
Very nice … I just realized he Ref210 was discontinued… I don’t know why… figures I’m sorta looking for a ref or hd210 .. I have a hd112. Always wanted to try that stack. I do have a HG410x but I still prefer ceramic too. All great gear.

Thx! I also have an HG410X…but the REF210’s are honestly quite different! As you know, it’s really hard to get any neo to behave like a really good ceramic. The REF210 is worth the hunt! (Older HD210 utilizes same woofer—just different tweeter)… I DO like my HG410X—just uniquely different. Appreciate the rear-facing speaker, and prefer transporting it over the REF’s…

Speaking of my HG410X neo rig ^^^…

I love this rig as well, but use it differently. Has a rear-firing 4th speaker that gives a 3D surround sound effect. Your drummer will love you, too! Quite versatile—sounds fantastic with all my basses, but currently use it with my piccolo-strung custom short scale 30” MTD and a plethora of time-based effects.

Kevk thanks again for recent helpful Bergantino posts.
I do dig my new HG410x too and getting more used to it. I find myself trying to tame the highs and mid highs which is fairly easy with the HP1. With my previous NV115’s I pretty much left all the eq controls straight up/noon and played with the awesome filters. I use very slight compression with the HG. Also the gain structure is slightly different. I get a more even or controlled sound/tone with the gain at around 12:30 as opposed to 2:00 with the NV cabs which i just sold. I don’t miss lugging them but one HG is better than two NVs moving wise.

I’m very curious why Jim discontinued the RefII210 and only has the RefII 112 and 115? Sales ?
I really don’t need another cab and the HD210 or RefII210 are hefty little beasts.

When I get my HD112 back at the house I want to see how it behaves with the HG410X not that it’s really needed. I’ve read several times that running the HP at 2.67 ohms is fine. just don’t go crazy.

NAD!

New to me Traynor YBA300! November 2013 build date, I'm the 3rd owner. 1st owner was really good to it. He had a service center make the updates/mods to the circuit boards to bring it to the latest 2016+ configuration for reliability. 2nd owner he didn't use much, said couldn't get a good tone out of it and has been using his Mesa WD800 exclusively. Figured out he was running his GK 2x12 NEO 8 ohm cab on the 2 ohm impedance setting of the amp. Quick switch to the 4 ohm setting (250W instead) and this beast roared when testing with my Precision Ultra!

Did some maintenance work fixing scratchy pots, verified the bias of the 12 Ruby 6L6GC power valves and polished the tolex for the deep black sheen.

This amp has b****s like a brass monkey, super clean tone and crazy loud. Been a dream amp of mine to own!

Got a bunch of outdoor gigs coming up. I use my 210 and 115 Peavey TVX cabs. Can't wait to rock it!

Is this what is meant by ‘bi-amping’?
Not exactly. I'm just sending the same signal to both heads and using the Tone Hammer with the SL112 for distortion and the AG700 with the SL410 for a clean sound. Most people consider bi-amping running the high frequencies through one amp and the low frequencies to another one.

Orange would consider that to be Bi-amping, but the distortion side would be a guitar amp.

In this specific case the guitar channel has a 4x12 cab sim on the XLR output and a 4x10 on the clean Bass output. ( 1/4" is a combined channel output without any cab sim on the signal going to an amplifier and not the FOH or DAW.)
