Lets see your best friends........

And as for the best dog in the world, here he is sitting next to my fiance... who happens to be the best person in the world. I'm quite the lucky guy. ;)

He's got a boatload of personality. Extremely smart, cuddly, gentle, etc. People stop us routinely to tell us how beautiful and/or well-trained he is. He makes me laugh outloud every day and he's oftentimes the highlight of a very stressful day. He ranges from a super serious/focused look to a silly goofy persona.

I agree with keiththebassist.

The fact that you're in such denial only reinforces my (and his) opinion on your lack of forethought.

Don't mean to highjack the thread, but I can't believe somebody in this world was dumb enough to start a "guns & dogs" thread. There's almost an unlimited amount of facepalming in there. What's next? Guns and baby threads?

Yes, wow!

Nice dog, but the owner needs some common sense knocked into him. And/or perhaps some smarts, too.

Should I have worried that maybe he would go open the door to the house, walk upstairs, load a few clips, insert them into the guns, pull the slide back, chamber a round and have an accident?
Maybe he'd grow thumbs and start out on a shooting spree.

Or wait, are you saying that maybe the guns would just magically go off?

I'm not getting the huge WOW factor here.

You can agree with him all you'd like, it doesn't make you any less over-reactive and ridiculous.

The guns were unloaded, the pics were taken in an enclosed fenced area.
Where's my lack of forethought? Can you tell me one REALISTIC danger the dog myself or anyone in the entire world was in?
Please I'm seriously curious, What immanent danger was there? What was so incredibly unsafe here?
I'm hoping you can come up with one REALISTIC issue that I should have considered before hand.

Well, no pits, big dogs, or guns here. This little guy, Moss, came with my wife, but he's my best buddy now. He's a yoodle, or a porky - poodle/yorky mix.

I said I'd never own a small dog, but, well... He's awesome, although like a lot of small dogs he can be on the yappy side. Overall though, he's fantastically well trained and smart.

I really want an Irish Wolf Hound or a Great Dane some day.... I think they probably crap bigger than Moss.

Always said the same thing about the small dogs but once you get one, they do just grow on you.

My brother's wife went out and bought one and he swore he'd never walk it or be caught dead with it.

a year later he's rolling all over the floor with her, and yes he walks her pink leash and all.

I love the facial expressions in this one.

Lavitz carries the weight of the world with him... he's a pretty well adjusted dog considering he was surrendered to a shelter at a year old and was stuck there for almost 1/2 a year before we found him. We are dealing with a little separation anxiety currently... but it's being worked out.

We need to start a Catahoula club. Best dogs ever.

:) Angus is our 3rd (the first 2 were litter mates and mixed with Rhodesian Ridgeback).

Here are the other 2...

We lost Tiller to cancer @ 12

and Bluedog made it just past 15 years old...

(also with Angus about a year after the other picture)

Bitey! that's awesome

:D I had named him Skittles... but being bottle fed from less than a week old without a mother to teach him otherwise, he is a VERY mouthy cat. So he quickly got the nickname Bitey.

He loves Angus... they are always together

The one that's there for you no matter what happens, The one that loves you no matter what you do, even when you get mad at them.
The friend that is always ready to play with you, always ready to hang out with you no matter where your going or what your doing.
The friend that never passes judgement on you even when you wear that stupid Christmas sweater your mother in law bought for you three winters ago that's two sizes too small and looks absolutely ridiculous but you wear it anyway to make your wife happy.
The friend that will gladly sit at your feet while you practice those horribly out of tune bass lines that you think sound oh so good, long after the rest of the family has moved you into the furthest back room of the house and closed the door.
They didn't buy you those huge head phones for Christmas because you looked cute in them, even if they told you they did.

There aren't many that would put up with half that they do, and it's time they get some credit for all that loyalty and compassion that they share with us everyday.

You described my best friend!

Hated, loved, does not really care about me, but still is my best friend.

now about my dog... The gushing begins - sorry

Basenjis are a love hate thing. The best & worst of dogs , all in one package. I would never recommend anyone getting one due to their ferrel background (they will bite). Still, there is so much personality in them. They push your buttons, but only love you & your family (have no interest in strangers or are wary of them). Its about gaining their trust & respect. Once you get that they can be amazing buddies. Fearless dogs. I really admire them. I wish I could be like them sometimes, a very proud & dignified animal. He even cleans his feet before he comes in the house like a cat.

I am going to miss them so much when they leave us- the real downside of owning a dog.

Yeah I love the Pit haters, my great dane is my first non pit dog.
I've had more pits than I knew what to do with. I love them as a good family dog.
But they tend to be too energetic as puppies and I wasn't wanting to go through with it again.

I'm a pretty big fan of dogs, most breeds, anyhow, so I don't take a position on pits or anything. However this is what I've said to my coworker last night, an owner of a pit since probably 11/11:
me: hey guy, nice marks on the arms; new guy's really tearing you up huh?
him: yea, he's turned into a genuine full grown beast. I can't stand now when he decides he wants to fight me.
me: so, sounds like time for training?
him: nah, we're havin fun. did a great job on my arms tho.
me: gee, nice dark spot he made on you, don't figure you should go to the doctor?
him: yea, it's not healing. I think I'll just go to the hospital and say our boss did it :D

Guilty! I said the same thing, and I now walk Cookie around with her pink leash. I have some much better pics, but not on my work PC...

EDIT: BTW - this was after her surgery and she was on pain meds. Thus the "Wait, what??" look on her face...

Perhaps your dogs could fire your weapons if you tied bacon around the triggers.

A pit with a gun, RUN!!! Run quick before she pours 65 grains of blackpowder down the barrel, then drops a lead ball into it and rams it down with the attached rod, then pulls the hammer back halfway, loads some powder into the pan, pulls the hammer back all of the way, takes aim and shoots. RUN!!!! errr..ok, just walk fast. :p
