My next project bass is this Ibanez GSR100EXL I bought on the cheap also from eBay. I’m thinking about dropping in a Nordstrand MM pickup and electronics then swapping out the hardware for Ibanez smoked chrome.
This one also arrived somewhat nasty.

Like a tuxedo.I played this thing out today, and I was pretty floored by how good it sounded

Agreed. I'm wondering if a similar pickguard would dress up my newest addition...Like a tuxedo.
Awesome! Great job!View attachment 3551822
My Ibanez SR100 eBay cheapo. It was rusted out, nasty grease grime all over. Broken string nut. The previous owner used a Phillips screw for a strap button! I took it apart and totally cleaned it. New strings new string nut. New tone controls and new strap buttons.

Slick!Purchased new in 2004 for $495 plus shipping. First pic is what it looked like to begin with (ebony thumb thingie was added right away). Over a period of several years I changed out the pots and input jack, changed the two knobs to ebony, added Straplok retainers, swapped out the bridge for the quick-change version, of course had to add the matching tuners, then finally had a new pickguard made with easy truss-rod access. Pickup is still stock. No plans to add a preamp or more knobs. It's been a fun bass to play and own. Still in near new condition.

THAT’S ALL I EVER WANTED!In series mode it sounds like a giant P bass is trying to smash your walls down.

That will look slick. What finish on the body?Black Hipshot HB1’s + black Kluson string retainer on my 70’s CV Jazz:

I have a black Hipshot Kickass bridge on order + a set of 3 black anodized aluminum knobs sourced direct from Sadowsky for this bass as well.
Will also finally install the Dimarzio Model J pickups I picked up a while back once the bridge arrives- can’t wait!!
It’s pretty sick. That Beta Bass combo![]()
Came across it on FB Marketplace- original owner was asking $100 but I offered $80 & said I was gonna use it for parts (which wasn’t a total lie, lol..)
It was missing its pickguard & knobs and had a busted G tuning key but I’ve got it up ‘n running again.

My employee discount @ Guitar Center knocked the price of the Hipshots from $130 down to $70 but it was money well spent.
I’m now deciding whether or not to change out the pickups. The stock alnicos sound pretty great!
I have the exact 60's CV and I agree on the pickups. I usually tinker with mods on a cheaper bass but it sounds killer as is. I thought I got a steal when I got mine $120 but dang you paid half that!Came across it on FB Marketplace- original owner was asking $100 but I offered $80 & said I was gonna use it for parts (which wasn’t a total lie, lol..)
