I found this body on ebay, made my Unorthodox Guitars in Indiana. Had USA custom guitars make me a neck, and put a brass hipshot bridge, EMG electronics, and a tung oil finish. It's hollow but the walls are very thick. Great tone, and surprisingly good balance too. Since this photo I have installed the tuners properly, not backwards like the pic. Also installed some custom wood THG knobs.

To answer (maybe!) Major Metal, there aren't major differences across the years, at least to me. the thing about Hofners is, if you do even something the tiniest bit different in the design or build, it really has an impact. For that reason I suppose, they use virtually identical methods to the old stuff when making them and there's not a huge difference in sound or playability between my Oct. '63 Selmer one and my V62 reissue. The only real concessions they've made is the use of better glues. Some old ones suffered various failures from the glue giving out. That said, I still gig them all, and they're not nearly as fragile as some would make you believe. I mean, my '63 has been going for 46 years now with no real problems yet.

I love all your violin basses guys ! Here are mine. In the first picture are my two Kliras the one on the left was my first bass my dad bought me in '72, I "improved" it long ago with Gibson SB450 pickups, I would not do that again ! The one on the right I bought with the help of TD recently.

Next up is my '65-'66 Hofner I got this in '74, traded it in '77 followed it through two owners and bought it back in '88, it's been with me ever since.
