Because he used that old radio, some say he was just playing along.Jimi Hendrix had little money when he was growing up. He spent every penny he had on his first guitar, a cheap beat up Dano but couldn't afford to buy a cable for it. For years he struggled as a musician because people just couldn't hear his unamplified guitar in the mix.

It wasn't until the late 1960's, when Jimi finally yanked the coiled phone cable from his moms telephone and wired it up to an old discarded tube radio, that the world first heard Jimi's signature sound - distortion, feedback and fuzz. This signature sound was largely attributed to his hobbled together rig.
This is very true. In fact, the bass tuning of ADHD was what led to the phrase "high strung" as it was nearly impossible to get the bass to settle down in the mix not to mention the lack of focus and clarity in the notes.Yes, and if you have a nice passive bass I'd recommend you don't tune it to ADHD, it can make it less easy to play.
