Setting the intonation on a guitar is named as such because a properly intonated guitar looks like a human foot. A related fact: guitars were initially 5 string instruments. The low E string was added in 1877 by the Austrian luthier Jo Hamer.

Exactly!! I always intonate my bass so it looks like this.... but I play a 4-string so I leave the little tiny toe out...

I have been keeping this secret for sometime now, but I feel it is time to share with you all, If you buy a set of round wound strings and decided you want to try flats instead all you need to do is, removed the round wound strings from you bass hang them up by the ball end in a well ventilated area, next go out and by yourself a can of

spray your strings let them dry for 24 hours replace them on your bass and now they are flat wound strings! your welcome RTS

If things start going wayward, one can always boutique one's boring basses, on a boutique basis.

Simply take your boring basses along with you, whenever you go in for a pampering at your favorite boutique, and shout the dear things a Brazilian maybe, or a henna tattoo, or something similar, just to brighten them up a little bit. Works a treat, most of the time, and you'll find they'll start playing nice again.
