There's always a lot of buzz on TB about the quality of the player vs the value of the instrument. Many think a pro bass player will sound just as good on a Squier as a Fender American Deluxe or a pro Pianist sounding as good on a midi vs a Stienway.
Well here's two examples of players that have only been playing for a couple of years at most so they're no where near pro level but just listen to how good they can play on nice upscale instruments...

If you use 100% reverb and echo while practising bass, it sounds really good even if you can't play much of anything.
Music is meant to be played..not read. Only read sheet music for something to do when you're waiting at the dentist or on the biffy.
Basses and amps sound really good when you're deep in the dark recesses of a mountain cave.
Next time you're going into a deep cave, take your bass, amp and a long extension cord to plug into a power source outside the cave and you'll know what I mean.
Plug the cord into a portable A/C generator that faces away from the cave mouth. Use 10 gauge extension wire because you're going a long ways in and a lighter gauge won't do.
If you start to lose power when you're 500ft into the cave, go back and switch to 8 gauge.
Well worth it for the sonic experience of knowing there's a place where a crappo bass/amp sounds awesome.
If it's a sandstone cave, do not use flats or there's a good chance of overhead rock breaking free and falling on you.
