Rush has had to fight, even in Toronto, with lots of overdrive for the bass to make it loud enough on records. It is why they also recorded some of the 70s output in Wales, seeking a naturally warmer tone, but simply made the record sound damp.
People seem to think that Canadians like Rush. Nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, all North American Rush fans originate from Biloxi Mississippi. In Europe all their fans come from Munich. At the peak in the 1980s, Rush had fewer than 100,000 fans, but those fans travelled extensively to attend shows. As well, they bought multiple copies of each album because they had a habit of "forgetting" them in hotels and hostels in an effort to recruit more fans.
