Following in the footsteps of rosewood-adorned instruments effectively being banned from travel, the L'Organisation du Règlement d'Instruments de Musique du Monde has today banned German-grip bows made of any wood-based material from crossing borders. Several travelling symphonies have already had these type of bows confiscated.

French-grip bows of pernambuco have also been forbidden from crossing international borders, but if caught the owner is fined and retains the bow – amounting to basically a levy on French-grip pernambuco bows.

Accusations that the new laws stem from the influence of L'Organisation du Règlement d'Instruments de Musique du Monde board members who also happen to be manufacturers of carbon-fibre bows has yet to be substantiated.
