TRITONE THEORY
At first, nobody thought anyone in their right mind would play a tritone on purpose, because if you played one it was only because you were "trying to play" something that was pleasant to the ear and had failed — thus tritones were originally spelled as "Try Tones".

Ernie Ballistic Bass Strings
All kinds of thermal tricks have been applied to strings, including sudden cooling to cryogenic temperatures.
Totally new is Ernie Ball's ballistic treatment. Newly produced strings are packed into a hollow shell which is then fired over a distance of five miles. This projectile impacts on a massive maple block. Immediately after impact, each string is packed into a bag and vacuum sealed. Ernie Ball claim these 'Ernie Ballistic' strings will be fuzzy straight from the box.

Boiling your strings in water and then drinking the water afterwards (let the water cool first, dummy) will put the zing back in your step.
Sounds like a veiled shot at Dean Markley Blue Steels. Do they still make them?
On a related note, Ernie Ball originally had the idea to cryogenically freeze bass strings. The problem was with his marketing department. They couldn’t get past calling them “Blue Balls.” Ernie gave the idea to Dean.
