Let's spread some musical misinformation

Can't wait for your strings to die? Here's the solution by Dull Skull ToneLab!

The windings on bass strings are critical to your sound. Clockwise wound strings are best for rock and country, but anti-clockwise wound strings are better for jazz. For metal, winding direction is immaterial as long as the strings are the lightest gauge possible.

Remember to reverse this south of the equator. On the equator it doesn't matter, partly because it is too hot to play bass there.

I am the greatest bass player in the world. I taught Jaco but he wouldn’t listen. I sold Sting his vintage P. Birds dare not fly in front of my monstrous stack. My collection is housed in an abandoned Home Depot. I play a 12-string, and that’s just my practice bass. Phil Lesh called me to sub for him, but I turned him down.

I can hear you and I live in Saginaw.

If Jaco didn't listen, you weren't teaching. It is not the student's job to learn, it is the teacher's job to impart the knowledge.

The best recipes for boiling bass strings can be found in Italian cookbooks, under the chapter "Making Spaghetti".

That's because in medieval times, into the early Renaissance, pasta was used entirely for instruments - spaghetti and other grades of long pasta for strings, tortellini was originally for plectra. It was a while before they realised that this marvel from China was actually supposed to be food. Columbus was, of course, a keen guitarist, and was just trying to pop over to China for some cheap strings. The Chinese, having heard of this, sent a chef over to Italy to point out the error of the Italian ways (he later opened the first Chinese takeaway in Rome). It's not recorded who convinced the Italians that pizza was also food, and not sports equipment.

"Parametric equalization" is when a member of the 82nd Airborne hits the ground and his 'chute deflates.

I thought it was like cubits, and parametric just meant you were measuring the length of something by laying paratroopers end to end. Much like rods, chains, and furlongs, you have the para, squad, platoon, company, etc. Of course it's difficult to calibrate your paratroopers.

Oh, yes, that's the military form of "bandwidth," which is the measurement of how much stage your group occupies. Horn bands typically have a larger bandwidth than trios.
