There is a quota system, where after every thousand or so lead guitar solos, you must include either a drum or bass solo... and (fortunately) no one told drummers. Bassists on the other hand were mistaken for guitarists by sound guys who (at the time) couldn't see the difference...
Kramer aluminium-necked basses are no good for heavy metal but are absolutely perfect for light metal.
There used to be lead-necked basses for that, but they had to stop building them because of lead poisoning. To protect the companies, the deaths were blamed on drugs.
By the way, for the same reasons, there is no lead anymore in the lead guitars. Somehow the name stayed...
Strings used to be made of lead too. We all know what Hendrix really died of, but it was covered up at the time. I don't know where they got the vomit from to cover it up, but you can't dust for vomit.
Technically, Kurt Cobain did not die of lead pensioning. It was actually an acute lead overdose. But more germane, many suspect he did it to get away from Courtney Love. There's no proof (obviously, they made sure there woudn't be any), but I've heard the vomit came from his manager who found him, and couldn't stand seing a dead body.
EDIT : Kurt Cobain also died of lead poisoning, but they found a much more ironical way of covering it up.
It is disingenuous to narrow a person's personality down to a unidimensional description based on stereotypes of addicts to a single drug. It ignores the nuance of all the traits and quirks that make up a personality. For Courtney Love you need at least 3 drugs to describe her.*I can totally see it. She was probably bouncing song ideas off him backstage. Like a methed out Jeanine.
The Les Paul started out as a reasonably priced guitar until canny music shop assistants started displaying them in the window with the switch pointing to the direction that reading the small print allowed them to charge 3x what it was really worth.Guitars are stamped "lead" or "rhythm" on the back.
Ringo's second cousin's uncle's mother's brother's son is none other than David Starkey.

But the real joke is that gibbons are not at all funky. Only bonobos and humans are funky. The comedy trio 'The Goodies' big hit 'The Funky Gibbon' was originally going to be 'The Funky Gibson' about the use of Les Paul guitars in the emerging music form of which Bill Oddie was and is a huge fan, but Gibson threatened legal action as it wanted to keep its association purely with rock and metal. Since the record was mostly recorded and a release date set the lyrics had to be quickly reworked. The first 200 pressings are very valuable as the label still references the original title.
