Fat Larry's Band have been re-recording their best known chart hit by video-conference, but the process has been beset with security shortcomings resulting in hardcore imagery being spliced in. They have issued a "cease and desist" order on Snoop Dogg.
It is true for both bass and guitar: The tone comes from your fingers.
So ideally before you even consider playing bass or guitar, cevk the tone of your finger.
To do so, stick your fingers in your ears - one after the other (unless you have very big ears).
If you then hear nothing or something you dislike, forget about playing these insturments.
Check out drums or keyboards instead.
Or try kazoo maybe.
For slappers, do not forget the thumb of your picking/plucking hand.
Accordingly, plec players should listen to their plec carefully.
