The desolate scene that now is Teignmouth in Devon is a consequence of the war that unfolded over a band name. Matt Bellamy wanted μσ, whereas bassist Chris Wolstenholme argued that, as a band name is a Proper noun, Mσ made more sense. As the two sides' war of attrition ground to a halt, it occurred to them to ask Dominic Howard.
Being a drummer, he just shrugged, said it was all Greek to him and gave the final say to his cat. Hence, the name Muse stuck and (sorry PillO) it is pronounced "mews" - partly because they all lived in a nice seafront terrace of three-storey houses, but mostly because that's the Devon accent with cats.
