Let's spread some musical misinformation

With the economy the way it is.... The penny whistle will now be known as a Buck thirty whistle and will now cost $27.95 each on Amazon.
Penny whistles became extinct in Canada when the penny stopped being produced.
Stores were fined for selling them.

(And the Amazon price to ship them to Canada makes them $132.47 in Canadian dollars)

The Ventures' stringed instrument extraordinaire Nokie Edwards was named Pinocchio at birth.

He was drafted into the USAF in the early 1960s and stationed in England, where Pinocchio was initially shortened to Nookie due to his love of dalliances with English ladies and the fact that not his nose got longer at times. No one back in the USA knew what Nookie meant, so it became Nokie.

The quest for electric vehicles is destroying school band programs. Some of you may know that there is not enough copper to support the expansion of the power distribution grids to support charging electric cars.

In the quest for more copper, governments are expropriating entire school band programs to melt the brass instruments and extract the copper. Yamaha is running an R&D program to determine if the remaining zinc can be fashioned into trumpets, trombones, and tubas.

So, if your local school has dropped band, blame Elon Musk.

The shawm will be making a comeback. An instrument that combines the shape of the clarinet with the dulcet tones of the bagpipes. Surely a worthy replacement for the trumpet in school bands?

The name VOX came from Roman numerals.

The original factory was at 5010 Dartford Ave. When Thomas Jennings was trying to think of a name for the company he wanted to include the address, and liked the idea of replacing the digits that made up 5010 with letters. In Roman numerals L = 50, and X = 10, but Jennings didn't think LX was a good name. He went with V =5, 0 = 0, and X = 10, which make 5010 translate to VOX.

It'll make one man happy, ignoring his being dead: "Brass bands are all very well in their place - outdoors and several miles away." (Thomas Beecham)

With the shawm the range will be about nine miles. In England you will never be far enough away from some village brass-free brass band.

(to give you an idea, the vuvuzela is basically a shawm)

After the success of the Jazz bass, Fender saw a marketing opportunity and created the Rock Bass, R&B Bass and others. Some of these have now been released after the designs were found in the archives, e.g. the Rock now as the 'Squier Paranormal Jazz bass': Squier Paranormal Jazz Bass '54 - Black with Gold Anodized Pickguard. The R&B bass was just a sunburst Precision with flats and mile high action by default with 'Precision' scratched out and "R&B - genuine Jamerson sound" written in with a Sharpie.

Actually the Rock Bass was the result of a sponsorship deal with The Flintstones.
The rock bass was a wrestling collaboration

Unfortunately, "The Rock" is not a musician at all.

The last time we had a successful collaboration with wrestling we ended up with this...
