All fretless basses should also be stringless to ensure they are played not out of tune
It's like piano players in bands. The best sound is from a prepared piano - one from which you've removed all strings below middle C to ensure that the bass frequencies are left to the bass.
For guitar players, remove all but one speaker from the 4x12. Bonus is that if it's a 100W tube amp the impedance mismatch will soon turn it into a 0W amp / fireworks show / recreation of that Zappa gig in Switzerland.

they work best if preceded in the chain by a goatse pedal. just make sure to get the original one. the reproduction ones won't give you the brown note.

a friend here in New Zealand bought a bass amp head back from the USA a few years back... but the head wouldn't work unless he turned it upside down on top of his speaker cab

What a waste when the lager was probably worth more than the amp!
Of course, with a Peavey TNT, you are supposed to set it on fire. Although that got less fun when the health and safety brigade stopped Peavey putting the stick of TNT in them. That was such that you could have it next to the drummer and have the drummer explode. Peavey also used to do a range of pods for stage use.
