I just replaced the stock Fender nickles (45-110) on my new 08 American Standard Jazz with a set of "med Lite" DR stainless Low Riders (45-100)/. After a few quick set up adjustments, I was able to bring the action down and get a much more pleasing tone. The DR set feels perfectly balanced and just happen to be the exact same guages as the EB Slinky sets I use on both my SR4 and SR5.
I may have to try a set on one of the Rays to see how they compare to the Slinkys. Of course, I'm comparing stainless to nickle but on the Fender, the thinner guage on the lower end made a big difference and the bass feels much more playable while still sounding great.
The MIM Fenders come with a stainless set (40-100) that is actually quite nice.
