They're both fine (which is to say, a lot better than my 9¼ lb Yamaha BB!) Sensible body design and ultralight tuners are clearly important.
For reasons of reach (my wrist's fault, not the basses') I've added Dunlop straplocks to the upper horns of both the SB and the LB; that also benefits the balance, but there wasn't any dive before I added them.
With an MFD and Pro Steels on one, and a Dimarzio Model P and Chromes on the other, and plenty of layers of EQ downstream, I'm pushed to identify any specific character coming from the empress, but I've read that it's Good For Mids. I like mids, so I guess if empress was Bad For Mids, I would be noticing that.
