Side note for everyone else... we already sold out of the pre-orders in not much more than 24hrs. Thanks! Those should ship out in 2-3 weeks. The first new production run is planned for late September and will be about 30 units, with a second run of 150 units to be expected about a month after those are gone. The first 30 are hinged on the arrival of the special materials I ordered over a month ago and expect in September. Then I'll need to order a big batch of a different material to continue... thus the second run of 150. I can scale up after that if interest persists. Thanks for your continued support of my electro-magnetic obsessions!

Don't know if this is a dumb question, but how do these transformers in a chain differ from say, putting a radial jdi in the chain? Regardless if the JDI is something else entirely, if just going for transformer saturation, could it serve the same purpose as the 2020/2020s?

I love the Lightning Boy Transformers and I can't say exactly, but it makes the chain sound fatter and more vintage somehow to me. Here is my "Clean" always-on Board. On the JDI the transformer is only for the low impedance out, it has no effect on the pass through signal, that is how most DI's are wired. Luv my JDI it is my live go to and also used occasionally for recording.

As far as the result of adding a LBA2020 or LBA2020S [or several in series as many do] it depends on how critical your listening is. Live I really didn't notice but I don't play loud at all anymore. In my various recording chains it is apparent that there is a pleasant quality when including my 2020 & 2020S. I have also found that increasing your signal level increases the "effect" audibly so I run my preamps a bit on the hot side compared to unity gain 3-6 db more if I want some crunch.

Appreciate this response.. maybe I'll pick these up when I find a deal. Hard to justify current cost for something subtle.

Hard to explain, but going to pedals/preamps and trying to emulate analog tones. Wondering if having transformers between my gt1000 core would make the effects sound more non digital. Don't know if that makes much sense.. but that's what I'm chasing. In a mix, is irrelevant, but it matters to me what I can hear even if no one else notices.

I would say it would absolutely help digital stuff sound warmer. I use an HX Stomp, which on its own (with some other stuff before it like compression, boost, etc) sounds fantastic. Put a Broughton Studio Boost afterwards (which has a Neve-style transformer in it), and it sounds even better. The effect is subtle, but it's there. The average person in an audience/congregation would likely not notice. But I notice. And that's all that matters. I later added an Ampeg SVT Direct box, and that took everything to the next level, even with the tube processing bypassed.
