likes/posts ratio

I just checked - I have over 10,500 posts in OT. Add that to my over 36,000 in the other forums and what've you got? Total Hyper-Elite Member.

Wow.
Just for you....

That, plus the fact that "likes" have been available for most or all of the time you've been posting. For those of us who have been around here much longer, many or most of our posts were made before anybody could "like" them. If post/like ratios are to mean anything at all they would have to be computed based on the number of posts since the "like" system went into effect rather than number of posts since joining.
Yeah, but the thing is, I can't help what is done when I post stuff. I can't help it if it's counted or liked by anyone. I don't pay any attention until a thread like this piques my curiosity, fair or not.

Oh sure, of course. My comment wasn't intended to be critical of you in any way. You had just pointed out one reason why your likes/posts ratio was so high, and I was just pointing out another reason -- one that I think often gets overlooked in these discussions.

I'm trying to figure out "Why" posts in OT don't count towards Post Totals

In addition to the +1 phenomena, there was a perception by some of the powers that be that the Stereotype The Person Above You thread was used by some members to boost their post count.

In fact, parts 1 thru 26 or so were deleted from the forum all together. Technically, my post count should be higher. And that's.................ok.

Most of the original bunch that hung there don't post at all anymore and the thread goes on with people who weren't on TB back then. They've never even been stereotyped as a ^ "post count whore". :woot:

But I shouldn't be discussing this, right? Wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more!:eyebrow:

Likes , post count, yawn.

Just kidding , stay in school!

Dang ol', yo man.

Why would anyone strive to any kind of post/like ratio here?
In theory -- but probably not in practice for many reasons -- a high likes/post ratio would reflect the degree to which your posts are appreciated: because they are informative, interesting, amusing, or whatever. And (again) in theory, this seems like something worth striving for.

What mystifies me is why anybody would want to boast about having a high post count per se. Posting is free and easy, and your total number of posts is limited only by the time you have available and your willingness to say anything just to add to your total. If you have a high post count, what is there exactly to be proud of?
