Line 6 HX Effects

Yep, the total power output of the Ojai adapter is 2400mAh from memory, which puts it theoretically towards the ceiling of what the Stomp needs. It'd be borderline....

I'd need to power the Stomp, a Cali76 Compact Bass (18V voltage doubler cable and about 100mAh), a Darkglass AOU (110mAh) and VMT (bugger all, like 50mAh). I think my Polytune might get turfed if the Stomp tuner is good. I feel like I'll be cutting it fine...

The tuner on the HX has been great for me. Don’t know why/how the stomp wouldn’t be. I heard somewhere too that the tuner will be getting updated/facelifted too maybe? I have no idea where I heard that from but I do remember hearing that. Somewhere. Maybe....

Yeah, there was a video posted somewhere, I saw it too. Updated to a strobe tuner I think, and the video was side-by-siding it with a Peterson Strobostomp

I played around with those settings for a couple of hours and got a pretty good result on the two high strings. On the low strings, especially the low E (tuned drop D) it just sounded wierd. I had to lower the sensitivity knob to around 1.7 - 2.5 to get it to work okey-ish but then I had to really pound on the higher strings instead to get the filter to open. I gues it’s a combination of my heavy picking and my insanely high output active G&L L2000 that’s the problem.

Also, I have to set the filter level to +6db or else its really quiet compared to when turning it off (mix set to 90%). I find this quite strange?

Maybe I need to lower the gain or compress my signal a bit before hitting the Auto Filter? I do use the deluxe comp model first in signal set to:
Threshold: -21.00 db
Ratio: 2:1
Attack: 2.0 ms
Decay: 50 ms
Mix: 75%
Knee: +6db
Level: 0 db

I know it’s barely compressing my bass at all but I like what it’s adding to my tone (running full Helix with GK amp sim and Mesa Powehouse IR btw).

Your sensitivity settings sound about right, given the super hot output of your bass. My other initial thoughts are that 1) a little more compression would probably help balance out string to string sound, but 2) What's your setup like? It sounds like the two high strings might be further away from the pickups that the low strings. Has that bass had a good professional tuneup in a while if you're not a DIY setup/action guy? That might account for the difference, when one set of settings works for the high strings vs. low strings.

What are the other settings you ended up with for the Auto Filter? Maybe I can help troubleshoot a little bit. A level of +6dB does sound a little weird. If I had a +6dB boost, the sound guys my band works with would panic and probably hit the mute button. lol

They say you can.
You can't exceed the total draw limit for the whole supply.
And I don't have a clear understanding of what adapters you need.
I have the adapter for the barrel and I have a voltage doubler.
I'll give it a try if I get a minute.
I have an Ojai

EDIT
Powering off of Ojai right now.
But not running other pedals from it.
Power doubler and a plug adapter

As a followup to this, I hadn't really considered the Zuma R300 before but on looking at the specs in more detail, it'll handle 4000mAh of output, plus has an 18V switchable port which negates me needing a voltage doubler for the Cali. Plus, if I need ports in the future I can grab an Ojai and expand it. No annoying external power adapter to mount either. If I can ditch the Polytune, I can do it all from a single R300.

Might be the ticket...

I tried the Stomp tuner with a couple basses today, both fretted and fretless. The Stomp tuner is visualized just a tad differently because of different screens, but it's the same setup as the Effects with the big bar and the fine tuning bar. Never had any trouble with either Helix tuner, but I also don't tune down.

Do you have a 5 string? ie: does it handle the low B?
I normally find the tuners like that handle the higher register stuff without much issue.

For me, I wouldn’t say better. I’ll admit I was kinda surprised at how good the muff was on the 60b. But I think the HX sounds better (so I guess I would say better, sue me ;)). I can get it very close to my ehx green Russian reissue.
I sold off a EHX GRRI as part of the big clearout to get the HX, I think muff's are one of the very few things I've been a little underwhelmed by, but to be fair I haven't explored those sounds fully yet.
What I'd love is an EQD Acapulco Gold again, that's one pedal I really miss.

Yeah, I've always meant to grab another Acapulco Gold. That was a serious face ripper. I loved how it sounded and how loud it got. Just a really mean pedal. You know, I wouldn't be surprised if you could get in that same realm with the newer model of the Deranged Master. I think it's called. That model is friggen heavy and LOUD. Probably not nearly as much gain. But maybe if we stacked it with something.

Yeah there is something about the HX muffs that I can't seem to dial in an exact sound of the GRRI. But really, it still sounds like a good muff to me. And it does sound pretty natural compared to other digital muffs I've heard in the past.

I'll refer you to my screen name, good sir! The better question would be: "Do you even own a FOUR string?" Lol

And the old Talkbass adage "Photos or it didn't happen" too, right? :D

Regarding the bug where effects blocks go missing I received response on my support ticket that it is HX Edit bug. I did total reset and never connected it to software. Made several presets directly on hardware and now they work fine.

But second bug appears which is already addressed to Line 6. On some patches after going back from tuner mode level drops several dB. After reselecting the patch level goes back.
How many of you have had this these issues?

This is strange...but I powered my HX Stomp for a few hours from an Ojai. No problem (no other pedals attached).
But then I plugged my HX FX into the Ojai and it wouldn't boot up.

I'm happy to just use the Wall wart...but my GTR board with the HX FX already has a CS-12 on it.
But with the CS-12, it boots but doesn't pass audio

I'm sure some (or all) knew this but I accidentally discovered a little trick yesterday. Was using my HX Effects at church and went to make a block adjustment via hands-free editing. I also happened to be using my expression controller assigned as a volume pedal, and I went to adjust a parameter on a block.

Turns out the expression adjusts the parameter you have selected in this edit mode instead of controlling whatever it's assigned to in the preset. Could've been bad as I was playing live, but fortunately I wasn't messing with anything that had any consequences in that moment. Good to know though! Makes for faster on-the-fly adjustment if needed.

The new versions are more authentic.
That TriFuzz is excellent on guitar.

I prefer getting these fuzz tones and not using a Blend if I don't have to.

They might be more authentic with regards to component modelling and such, but I think they set the input gain too high on some of the fuzzes, enough to render them unusable for me.

I had the same experience. I tried to see if I was doing something wrong, minimum gain is too much gain to use some of the non-legacy fuzzes with bass.

In my limited experience with fuzz models, Facial Fuzz (legacy) is the easiest to use with bass. One of the few that keeps the fundamental and does not filter low frequencies too much.

Also in my notes "Arbitrator fuzz might be usable but has extreme gain, with some -20dB pad at the input is usable".

The other thing I like is the fuzz section in the Clawthorn Drive... but only when combined with something else for bass (like the OD section in the same model).

I discarded the other models as "not good for bass", but I admit I run just a few quick tests on Native, did not try in depth and using dual path configurations.

Seems I'm not the only one, but I do notice we were both using Native, which is going to be very dependent on how you're setting up your input gain on your interface. The actual hardware Helix probably has the gain fixed at a much lower level that one might typically set when recording direct into an interface.

So far the triangle muff has been my favorite for guitar and bass. I have tried it both ways with a split path and just the effect on the signal and it seems
To stay pretty thick on the low end for me. I know it scoops the mids a bit but I can compensate with pickup balance. I use it as a pseudo lead guitar tone at church quite a bit and it works really well that.

I need an extra foot switch! Or a one click snapshot switch.

On my main patch, I am send/returning to my SA Aftershock, and it sounds great. But the Aftershock bypass is not transparent, so I want to toggle it from the HX. But all 6 switches are in use already. I made a snapshot so I can toggle it by changing snapshots. But that requires a few stomps (go to preset mode, press and hold two switches, select snapshot, go back to stomp mode). I want to switch this mid-song, so that doesn’t work for me.

So... is there any way to get a 7th one click switch? Or a one click way to switch snapshots?

So the SA loop is always on currently? Nothing else in the loop with it?

Aftershock has optional true bypass, didn't notice any tone change. Is yours set to be in true or buffered bypass?
