Line 6 HX Effects

There's plenty of pitching options including a whammy emulator. Yes different paths can be sent to different outs, this is covered elsewhere in this thread.
OK, I found some more info in this thread, looks like @Seanbassplayer was able to set it up in a similar fashion.

@Seanbassplayer mentions that he has set it up for a Royal Blood type of sound. With that in mind:
- what outputs are used for the "dry" bass signal and octave up "guitar" signal, stereo outs or fx send?
- Can the guitar and/or bass paths be muted so only one or the other is used at a time?
- add any effect to either guitar or bass chain, at any point after the signal is split
- are pitch bends possible using the footswitches (think Digitech Ricochet functionality) or or this only possible with expression pedal

Can the HX FX suitably cover Unibass or HOG2 territory? Can the signal be split so a pitch effected signal is sent to a separate output? If so, How much control over each output is possible such as pitch intervals, effects, etc.?
Look at the Pitch models in the instruction manual and you'll get an idea.
I have a patch at the moment that splits the signal to an Octave up. I have slightly delayed and detuned the octave up and run it through a GTR amp/cab model. My expression 2 adds a 5th above the octave up which also has it's own delay and detune. Expression pedal 1 controls my clean volume. Footswitch 1 turns the pitch shift on and also turns on the blend of channel B.

I am also EQ'ing out the artifacts of the pitch up.

When you split a path, the A and B can be panned where they mix back together.
So you can send one channel out each of the stereo outs.
If you only plug in one output cable, they will be summed in mono.
So it is good to balance out the preset where it will work either way.

I have mine running right now with the octave up through a 112 and the bass going to a 115 powered cab.
It is NICE

OK, thanks for the reply. I don't understand why I would want to mix the A and B signals back as the bass and guitar signals would be going to completely separate amps, unless I don't quite follow your logic.

In this set up I currently use a HOG2 as the pitch and signal splitter, with the dry bass signal going to a bass amp (TH500+2x SL112) a the pitch affected signal(s) going to a guitar amp (Ampeg R212R), with some outboard effects in between (EQ, drive, etc.). Since the HOG is midi I have been playing with controlling that whole set up by midi rather than tap dancing, but the HX effects could be an all in one if it can do what I think it can.

One thing I have to add. The pitchshifting is one of the couple weaker points of the HX IMO. It's good. But it could be better. My hope is they improve upon it and then add a POG model. That would be friggen awesome! And We have heard L6 say that they were working with some experts to improve on the pitchshifting so I'm pretty sure there will be more improvements in that area. But the way they are, they aren't bad. You just can't really track chords very well. Yet...

Sometimes I find myself in a one speaker situation and like to be able to still play.

I recently starting running those 2 rigs with the HX and man is it fun. What’s even better, I’ve set it up to where if I’m only running one rig, no biggie, I just run a line out of the main out. If I do happen to want to run/bring the other rig to a gig, all I have to do is plug a ¼ inch into SEND 1 on the HX and I’ve got a nice, unaffected, clean signal going through there. It’s as easy as just running another ¼ inch. I still need to tweak some here and there but overall, this is awesome.

I haven’t tried that yet.
Are you inserting a Send Block to do that?

Nope. I was. But then @smeet suggested splitting the signals at the end of the signal flow. That works better for me and it allows for easier effects placement on the flow and into or out of either rig.
Ah yeah...forgot about this method

But remember that you only get one parallel split.
If you were using that split for a Fuzz for instance, you wouldn't be able to do it this way.

It wouldn't matter in my case. I'm getting a solid, fundamental, clean from one rig. The other rig is the dirty. The only reason I'd need/want to split a fuzz it to retain the low end if it's lacking. My clean rig would be there for that.

HXFX arrived today and I'll spend tomorrow setting it up and playing with it. The aspect I'm most unsure about is the MIDI connection. I've never used MIDI before but I'm excited by the potential. If I'm connecting the HXFX to a Boss ES-5, would it be redundant or potentially confusing to the MIDI control to connect both via MIDI and quarter inch? Would I get the same benefits from just using MIDI or just using 1/4"?

I'll be using an expression pedal for HXFX stuff fwiw

Not sure what you're driving at here.

Let me see if I can help your understanding a little. First, is the HXFX going to be your "center of the universe" for your board? Or will the ES-5?

The reason I'm asking is to work out whether you'll be sending MIDI signals from the HXFX or to the HXFX.

There certainly won't be any issues connecting MIDI and quarter inch (though not sure where you're connecting the quarter inch? Do you mean you'll be connecting to the inputs for footswitches?). Might likely be making it more complicated than it needs to be.

For example, for me, my HXFX when I had it replaced my ES-5. Shoot me a PM if you have any specific questions, happy to help where I can.

Anyone have tips to attempt an SVT style tone from the Obsidian?
Do you have an SVT speaker IR? That helps a ton.
Ownhammer IR's have a lot of different curves. You'll want to load up several and see what works.

I sold my HX FX to get a Stomp and an LT so I don't have the preset.
But I had something that sounded good-but-different when compared to a Tech 21 VT Deluxe and to the Stomp's SVT or B15.

Valid point.

When you do have the 2 amps available, are you able to send the split signal, using what outputs?

I didn't see anyone answer this. But yes, that's not a problem for the HX. I use the main out to one amp and then SEND 1 to the other amp. There is a couple different ways you can run it but I think this is the best way for me. It has double ins and outs for stereo use too so you could easily use those as well. The HX makes it possible for you to do anything you want as far as running 2 rigs really. Or rather, there is more than one way to do it efficiently and effectively.
