Line 6 HX Effects

Or just carry an LT all the time.
No Wall warts at least.
XLR out with ground lift!!
But not efficient if you want to use any 'real' pedals with it. I guess you could have a little satellite board for your pedals.

This makes me simultaneously:
  1. Frustrated that I didn't maybe look more into Floor/LT when I had the budget.
  2. More excited at the idea of one day getting a Stomp to accompany my FX.
  3. Frustrated again that the CS6 I've got underneath the Metro24 would not power both.
And so I'm back to square one!

Question 2 - I seem to remember seeing a small expression pedal that's compatible with the HXFX, but can't find it now. No bigger than the Mini Dunlop bass wah.

edit - I'm thinking the small one I saw was the Dunlop DVP4, but not sure. Is it compatible and/or any good?
Help!

FWIW, I use the DVP4 with my HX. It works fine, but for it to work properly, I had to flip the reverse switch internally and then I reversed it again on the HX settings. Don't ask me why that was necessary, I just know it makes it work perfectly for me. I also use a TS cable, but I seem to remember that TS or TRS didn't make a difference. Haven't experimented with cables again recently.

When it was set normally before, it would sweep all the way by the mid-point on the pedal and then sweep all the way the other direction again the rest of the sweep. Very weird.

I personally don't use it enough, need to experiment with all the possibilities the expression pedal offers. I currently use it either as a volume sweep or a mix sweep for my Octabvre Mini.

None of these boxes are cheap, but for what they do, pretty amazing.
I didn’t know that I was going to like the Amp models or I would have gone straight to the LT and just used that.

I’m thinking I may sell my HX and get an LT one day. I can almost guarantee that I won’t ever have enough money for a Floor. But I may be able to swing the LT. I would miss the scribble strips I think. But I’d just adjust. Def should watch some Tubes on it first though.

This is pretty much the main reason I didn't go with an LT or full Helix a long time ago. I like drive pedals too much, and it's overkill in my opinion to have an LT-sized package PLUS another pedalboard with drive pedals on it.

EDIT: Then again, a little Solo 18 with a couple of pedals on it...ARGH STOP GET OUT OF MY HEAD

I nearly went the Solo 18 with the Stomp but realised it would just be a little too small to allow my 3 favourite drive/distortion pedals, compressor, HPF, and a stereo splitter. I ended up with the Duo 17 instead.

Same here, I managed to downsize from a Trio 21. I'll post a photo once I have everything finally wired up.

Any word for you on a delivery date for your Stomp?

Only an expected ETA of October 31st.

Cross fingers mine won't be far behind then.

Did you decide you were going to go straight to FOH using the Stomp?
Given how common it seems to be in Aus for soundies to want an XLR out to house, have you had any thoughts about how you'd do this?

I'm considering wiring one of the balanced outs from the Stomp to an XLR jack on the side of my board using one of the mini inputs the Templeboard guys make.

Yeah I was going to run an out to my amp without the amp/cab sim and then an out to FOH with the amp/cab block (using FX Send to my amp and Output to FOH).

I was either going to get the XLR module or just carry my Countryman DI with me and run an out to that first then straight to the desk.

Would the Countryman take a line level input? Or only instrument level? (couldn't quite tell from a quick look on the site and figured I'd ask first).

I've been wondering the same, but I'm a little more limited given I'm intending to use the stereo send as two effects loops. Means I need to look at the main outs, and probably use one side to go to FOH, and the other side to go to my amp. Meaning I'll likely be sending an instrument level signal out (and a DI like the Countryman might be a good idea), and I'll look to make my amp/cab as clean and flat as possible so I can run the amp/cab sims directly into it, as I can't turn off/route amp sims on one side of the main outs.

Just makes it a prick of a thing if I turn up to a gig and can't use my amp/cab...

EDIT: Actually, if this was the case, I'd just write a second set of patches without amp/cab sims, and go the traditional amp/cab route, having the FOH send come from the amp DI. Not ideal, but it'd work

It takes both Instrument or the input from the Amps speaker out. I am not entirely sure if this constitutes line level. I hadn't actually thought about that part yet.

EDIT:

Countryman 85 DI takes Maximum Input (1% THD) on Instrument mode of 5 Vpp and 300 Vpp in Speaker mode.

Line level (+4 dBU) = 3.5 Vpp

It should be fine.

EDIT 2:

In fact I may just mount the Countryman under my Templeboard and run it to an XLR Micro module so it's just a single plug right in.

Can the HX FX suitably cover Unibass or HOG2 territory? Can the signal be split so a pitch effected signal is sent to a separate output? If so, How much control over each output is possible such as pitch intervals, effects, etc.?

There's plenty of pitching options including a whammy emulator. Yes different paths can be sent to different outs, this is covered elsewhere in this thread.

Almost finished with my little HXFX board build, I'll be using this for Bass and Acoustic guitar.
